Arik Airlines Lagos Nigeria
 

Can anyone give me their experiences with Arik airlines in Lagos,Nigeria?
Specifically interested in becoming a F.O. with them in about a year from now. Hopefully in the CRJ fleet. I just started flight school for my PPL and want to know if it is entirely possible to get this far in a years time. I expect to get my ratings along this time frame and want the pro's to help with truthful answers to my goal expectations. How safe are pilots flying this region ? What can I expect ? Any Ideas you learned along the way I'd be glad to hear.

Why? Do you have a fascination with Africa? Why the CRJ ? Arik will have Q400's soon, which might be a better plane to start in.

Without wanting to be to negative, don't think that because it is in Nigeria they are more likely to take fresh CPL holders with no commercial experience than any other airline at the moment.

Currently a back log of assessments and lots of experienced pilots applying for both seats on all types, unfortunately.

As Tony said the Q400 would be better place to start - except that it is fully crewed at the moment (or technically overcrewed as the aircraft are yet to be delivered).

Thanks for the responses, Yes I originally thought the Q400 would be the starting point. To move up into a CRJ would be the turbine experience needed to advance. The reason I ask about Africa is only because the hour requirement minimums seem less than other areas of the world.
Certainly no offense to Africa, I would Love to see this continent.
Especially 2 months on/ 1 month off .

Getting started with anything is fine for me at first. I understand that exceptions must be tolerated in my first years . Everyone has to do this and I'm no exception. Such Is life. There should be plenty of options anywhere I could go, I just like to know I'm on the right thinking track for this as a career. I've heard a lot of misconception about the grandness of it all . Huh, If I don't expect much but work towards better opportunities I should be just fine, right?

Thanks for posting those hotel photos TonyWilliams ! Wow ! How many flat tires did you get on the drive there ? That I hope is the worst case senario ,although the hotel was nice.

Can't talk for Nigeria but that's a pretty average scenario for a lot of Africa. You avoid burst tyres by very very slow driving but it eventually will cost burst tyres and most gave up on replacing shock absorbers long ago.

As to the hotel being nice, I was looking at the same picture, it looked ok but looks can be deceiving. You get everything from poor sewarage to intermittent power. Nigeria could be better than other places around that region I've stayed in, I wouldn't know.

Don't Arik provide apartments?

Paules, are you a Nigerian? If not, forget it. I dont think Arik employs freshers who are not locals.However, some locals on the CRJs/737 were freshers when they joined Arik.

I am a Flight Instructor more than 500 hours on Glass Cockpit ,i don't think that i will get a job will Arik,how come they hire fresh graduates?

No I'm not from there, I live in Green Bay,WI. USA. great lakes region. Just read on pilotjobs.com some openings willing to hire with lower amounts of flying time. This was a posted inquiry thru Sigmar Aviation . If its real ,who can tell. Also wondered because of the international language for traffic control being english now , does this open up more oppurtunities for you experienced pilots as well ?

Of course it was sent to you :suspect:. I know you wouldn't be using a camera on short final for 18L with the usually erratic ILS signal.:ok:

ILS on 18L now?!. Times sure have changed. LG VOR in the good old days (if you were lucky).

Its nice to hear from someone with such drive and ambition. I really wish you all the best in your training and hope Arik offers you a position on completion of your training for the fact you seem to have so much passion for this our wonderful profession.:ok:

All the guys/slots I've heard of there are for pilots who already have a type rating on one of their aircraft, so they have already made captain at some other organization first.

Arik is asking for at least 500hrs experience on the type you apply for, at least for the Q400...

100 on type for FOs. At least when I interviewed thats what it was for the 400.
