Indigo Airways

Hi to all, just saw an Indigo Airways DC-3 in DAR, piston no less, was wondering what it was doing there since avgas ain't cheap or nescesarily readily available round these parts.

Of intrest to me in particular is why it had a Tanzanian flag painted on it's side but was under ZS register.

Siguarda al fine 22nd Mar 2009 19:34

It will be operating between Dar and Zanzibar and will be put onto the TZN register shortly.

I.R.PIRATE 22nd Mar 2009 19:56

When did it arrive? Is that Bruce Kellar's outfit?

FrancoisM 22nd Mar 2009 21:03

EDIT: This one right ?

Afirm Its Bruce almighty Kellar

Soap Box Cowboy 24th Mar 2009 07:40

Will be interesting to see how they will refuel that aircraft. The pumps are at Terminal 1 which is already jammed full of general aviation. Only when the new taxi way is ready will there be any room for it to park there. That and trying to get it to the Avgas pumps in either DAR or ZNZ is going to be a problem, those hoses long enough to reach?

Got a couple of pictures but not sure how I can get them on here.

Siguarda al fine 24th Mar 2009 15:47

Soap Box Cowboy.
Bruce and the the crew are aviators not just pilots they will refuel with drinking straws if required. I guess you would slink off back to the Hotel and call the boss about no fuel. AFRICA IS FOR MEN OF MEANS NOT WHIMPS.

Soap Box Cowboy 24th Mar 2009 18:32

Alright monkey boy, no idea where your coming from.

And sip av gas through straws they will. You clearly have never flown here before since you have comprehension of the layout of the airfields and the challenges of parking even a 206 here let alone a DC-3.

And as far as my abilities are to be questioned. I've always got the job done. Including using a forklift once to refuel my plane when the hand crank broke. A little ingenuity saves you from having to suck av gas through a straw and getting those white lips and dizzy feeling, or maybe you just get a buzz from that :E

Soap Box...common now...what happened to spell check?!...makes me doubt your airmanship bra?!!

Soap Box Cowboy 24th Mar 2009 19:13

This things got spell check? ooooh thanks for the the tip. This will make things easier. Having said that when was the last time you were checked on your ability to spell when you flew? Multiple choice exams and predictive text, soon no one will know how to write anymore.

Siguarda al fine 24th Mar 2009 19:14

Soap Box Cowboy, I see from your age I was flying in Baghdad when you were still in your dadīs bag; funny how the doff ones allways claim they got the job done. Why would they say that when its incidental?

Soap Box Cowboy 24th Mar 2009 19:25

Getting the job done as opposed to slinking back to the hotel, though the hotel is comfortable.

Then you might know my father he flew out there too back in the day.

bond7 25th Mar 2009 05:28

Soap Box "Cowgirl"...please get a grip...no need being so defensive...My Lil 7 year old niece can spell "ingenuity NOT enginuity"...with a mouth full of M&M's...:p

406pilot 25th Mar 2009 09:42

hola'

loving ths sledging guys keep it going...but the truth of the matter is for once in his lifetime the cowboy is right the space at terminal 1 is quite limited but of course its a great pleasure to see the majestic dc-3 in Dar..even i walked across to take some pics of this classic...

oh BTW the so-called "MEN OF MEANS" did a cool ground loop with the machine. which obviously tell you a bit about their credentials...as far as i have known the cowboy has always been a great aviator and now that he is with Tanzania's finest airline, hope he does great things there too...

siguarda if u look closely which im sure because of you age are having a problem to, you will see that we are a friendly bunch and are only trying to help you out...

keep it up there fellows,

no more 406pilot

ps: hey headmaster bond hope i didnt make any spelling mistakes on my post..

Contract Dog 25th Mar 2009 10:09

I thought that the yanks stopped spraying mind altering chemicals on their own after the whole agent orange thing, guess Iraq was no different hey siguarda?

I am sure no harm was meant by the cowboy, he was merely pointing out the operational issues that this a/c will face, and operationally, sipping fuel through a straw takes time, time, in modern aviation, is money + pax hate sitting around scratching their balls waiting to fly, so valid point re the avgas. There is no room for bravado and heros in todays aviation, go to CRM and get with it mate!

"oh BTW the so-called "MEN OF MEANS" did a cool ground loop with the machine. which obviously tell you a bit about their credentials..."

Are you ill my friend? We were told to park at cargo, not terminal 1 while taxying, so we....TURNED AROUND. I am afraid a ground loop, however spectacular it may sound, is a lot more spectacular in real life and generally involves leaving the runway/taxiway in an aircraft like the DC-3.

You had better be very careful who you try to insult while hiding behind your computer - we're in the same town here, you don't know us, you have no right to insult us:mad::mad::mad: An apology is in order - we are not pretending to be anyone we're not and we certainly did nothing to any of you to deserve being insulted by having our credentials called into question, behind our backs!:=:=

How do you guys even know what we're up to here? Who said pax have to scratch their balls waiting for Avgas? Who said we want "bravado" and to be heroes? Don't make assumptions about people and aircraft you possibly don't know! APOLOGIES DUE FROM YOU PLEASE CONTRACT DOG AND 406 PILOT

I am happy to correct this over a couple of beers at the Irish or George and Dragon - my round!

Siguarda al fine 25th Mar 2009 12:53

Well said Round engine. I would advise the cowardly snipers to stear well clear of the DC-3 owner as he has impecable credentials aviating and of the Pussklopper kind too.
Soap Box Cowgirl take solace in the fact you were once the brightest, fastest, strongest little sperm in the ejaculate......that was then; but now ??????????

Soap Box Cowboy 25th Mar 2009 15:18

Well round Engine, this all started off as a thread as to why a nice little DC-3 showed up in Dar with a Tanzanian flag on it's side. Which to me meant it was going to be here for a while. And off course operating here would create some operational difficulties that you would not have down south.

Sadly our Niccolo Machiavelli reader decided that we were not worthy to question the motives or technicalities of such an operation. After all we have only been flying out here for several years. And many of us have considered the piston DC-3 for various projects.

And yes I am the fastest little sperm, but then again so were you. Or are you going to claim that since your considerably older than me you had more competition in this age of falling sperm counts? :hmm:

For us non speakers of whatever language you are using, what is a pussclopper? Some kind of piston helicopter perhaps? Princess you don't know me and I don't know you, so what do you know about my abilities as a pilot? At least I had the foresight to think of operational issues concerning such an aircraft in Dar, I won't need to suck av gas through a straw since I would have already checked. And I'm proud to say that I've spent many years flying in the bush here under difficult circumstances and have dealt with many of the challenges to be had out here rather than slink of back to my hotel room.

We would be happy to meet you for drinks round engine. Karaoke at the Irish tonight, should clear up any stale air that has developed on this pprune as often happens when ego's collide on this thing. And princess before you make any smart remarks, I know for sure I'm a terrible singer.

Drop me a PM if your keen :ok:

"...And they lived happily there after!" :D

wonderdog 25th Mar 2009 22:34

just a small point

......and I don't mean my manhood...
....guys I am not pointing fingers, and I must say most posters write in reasonably competent style, but I have noticed some struggling with the difference between "your and you're"...as a confessed literary pedant please excuse any offence I may cause:ok:

I will not mention the use of "common" for "c'mon"....oh alright... I will !

Indulge me and forgive me,

wonderdog
