And we both know, that Namibia has had an extremely close shave by ICAO, amongst other factors due to the short comings of ATC. We are lucky, not to have lost ICAO membership, yet
Just out of curiosity, can a member country loose its ICAO membership???

If that country doesn't comply with certain regulations and if the overall safety in aviation is being compromised, it can be expelled from ICAO. For example, DRC would not be able to become a member, unless they seriously pull up their pants and basically re-invent aviation in their country.
In order to keep our member status, we had a couple of ICAO guys here in Nam, trying to brush things up, mainly at DCA and do audits / inspections of operators, aircraft and crew.

We are here from the UK for the world cup in a c525 so a lot of stops.

for flight planning the south african flight planning service is first class

just like flying in the USA

just call them on +27 11 9286517 they will get your flight plan in the system
throughout africa and of course you call them when your flight plan goes walkabout.

If you have a problem with airport slots in SA
call the slot manager on +27 11 9286433 very very freindly

once you are south of Kenya they seem to take the BP cards everywhere

we have used it in livingstone and and all the SA, Botswana ,Mozam and

Zambia airports.

You will need a clearance agent for you overflights and landing permits

in most other airports we have arranged fuel through world fuels just make sure you have a copy of the fuel request with you.

Your can buy Visas on landing anywhere for around $50 per person.

around khartoum and addis expect to pay $500-800 for landing and handling

and cash for fuel which is actually pretty cheap.

outside south africa seeing another aircraft on TCAS is a major event!

all in all we have had great service everywhere

for met we use the SA online met

and avbrief for upper winds and sig charts

just tale a bottle of deet and the malaria pills

enjoy!!!!
