Any problem with Johannesburg Radar yesterday?

In this article about the 1Time Engine failure they mentioned there was a delay for the replacement aircraft because of a problem with the Johannesburg Radar.

Can anyone confirm/inform/deny/correct?

Usual panic/chaos/shock horror reporting, though in another forum someone who was on the flight said the only panic chaos was after the flight landed (they were told it would originally be a 30min turnaround), with everyone scrambling to get to FAJS.

There was a Radar problem yesterday afternoon (+-1410 or there abouts)- JS ground reported a delay of about 30minutes, although we got off with a very minimal delay.

Handed off to Radar and under "radar control" at about 1450, but Area experienced another problem shortly thereafter...

Seemed like an intermittent problem, don't know any technical details...

Was operational when we returned at 1930...

Good service from ATNS allround :ok:

we were told an hour delay but were airborne within 45 Mins with 5 mins between departing aircraft. Quite amusing to hear the chirps and everyone ensuring their place in the Q. Very well handled by ATC. Thanks guys for a great service.

I heard that the Radar at FAJS did fail, but ALL the delays were needless as the Radar Bypass system was fully operational through it all, BUT, all but 2 ATC's "forgot" to switch to it and no manager thought of it either!!

A small "glich" here and there................, can't remember when last i had to hold, maybe luck but more likely skill on ATC'S side. Having flown out of SMUTS for years you hear the new voices and try and help where you can, it takes time for all of us to get use to the "ratrace" at JoBurg, but once you see the picture it all falls into place. Have seen quite a few of "unnesscesary" start delays and always been surprized at how quickly they disappear, well done Girls and Guys! The problem is? How do we keep them?????????( Wish we could pay what the sandpit does), Nothing better than hitting the border with a familiar voice and a sqauk code and getting direct JSV!!!(Thankyou Madam "Wonderboom")

Nice to see all the compliments paid towards the ATC.

They certainly deserve it.

Jo'burg has some of the best controllers :D :D in the world, it is always good to chat to them at Muscat, UAE and Dubai :) :) :) :) and even at JNB occasionally.
