Not AAS, not sure yet but think its a company "Tropicana", stand to be corrected.

Read on another forum that aircraft was D2FFK. Belonged to Gira Global. One of the passengers killed was the CEO of that company. Read that flight crew however survived accid. How, I would not know, as the reports said it was CFIT.

Got these two reports

"Ten die in Angolan plane crash
19/01/2008 21:19 - (SA)

Lisbon - A light aircraft crashed into a mountain near the Angolan city of Huambo on Saturday killing all ten people on board, Portugal's Lusa news agency said on Saturday.

Lusa cited a source close to the Angolan government as saying two of the victims were Portuguese. The head of Angola's national aviation centre, Celso Rosas, told Lusa that bad weather may have caused the airplane to crash.

The airplane belonged to a company that operates chartered flights in Angola.

The Beechcraft King Air B200 twin-propeller left Luanda, the capital, at about 0600 GMT and was headed for Huambo, a city approximately 450 km to the south-east.

The country's worst recent year for air accidents occurred in 2000, when two separate crashes claimed 87 lives in one month.

Last year, a Boeing 737 belonging to Angola's state TAAG airline crashed in the northern city of M'banza Congo, killing at least six people and badly injuring others."

And the second one:

"The aircraft involved has got nothing to do with Angolan Air Services.
It was operated by Giraglobo, which in turn was owned by Tropicana.

The owner of Tropicana, Mr. Valentim Amões was also on board and is one of the fatalities.

From first info that I could get (will not post it here, as it is in portuguese and most avcomers are probably not fluent as me) is that the weather was bad and the a/c flew into a mountain - Mbave Mountain - altitude 2021 meters. All 12 (some reports say 13) on board died and were completly burned. (two infants and two portuguese nationals included).

An Allouete-3 from Angolan authorities actualy crashed trying to get to the site. The chopper was a whrite off, but no fatalities.

As a curiosity, the owner of the company, Mr. Valentim Amões who also died in the crash, is a very well knowed (in Angola) businessman and is actualy the representative of South African Airways in Angola (the correct term is GSA - General Sales Agent - he has the right, so far an exclusive one, of selling SAA tickets and coordinating the SAA operation in Angola.
Some extra turbulent times might then be expected for SAA's operations into Angola."

B200 Crash Huambo

Can anyone confirm if its a B200 from Angola Air Services?

Knormoer 21st Jan 2008 18:41

SNUBAB, did you read any of the previous threads? No its not AAS's a/c!

The Jester 22nd Jan 2008 04:48

The aircraft was operated by Transteco , a sister company of Tropicana . The same group also owns Gira Globo who is operating the IL 76 and AN12 .
All same owner , Valentim Amoes . Funeral Wednesday in Huambo for those who are interested .
Looks like a classic CFIT below MSA .
