SAA management refused to accept SAAPA's proposal to reduce entry level salaries as they felt that this would not allow them to attract the best pilot candidates. They obviously realise how undesirable it is to work for SAA these days!

So new hires will still start at SAA at over R500k a year, but at least this time they will go direct entry as a P2 and this will eliminate all those who have hogged pilot positions at SAA as P3's when they could not fly and were only eliminated 3 or 4 years later when their P2 conversion finally caught them out.

Funny how rumours go.... I heard this rumour:

That TAAG was in negotiations with a Portuguese based airline, Euro Atlantic Airways, to operate those same B777's.

As TAAG have been banned from flying the EU this company would operate the aircraft for them beteween Luanda and Lisbon as they have a European AOC. Crews would be a mix of TAAG staff and a some Portuguese from Euro Atlantic.

But that would mean that the Angolans would have to get a JAA license, dunno if that would workout....

Does the fact that a TAAG B777 is currently parked at SAA Technical at FAJS have anything to do with this rumour?

akut 29th Jan 2008 13:29

Hey divinehover

TAAG has 2 B772ER + 1 B772ER(D2-TEF) which´s not in Luanda yet!
the B772 u have seen in JNB is not from SAA, it´s TAAG´s regular route LAD-JNB-LAD!!

Remember the recent signing of the Boks...the plan is slowly unfolding....
Yes, it has become cheap & easy to sign the Bokk''s now that all the senior players are overseas and the new coach has not proven himself yet . Political appointee NOT a merit selection (once again). Sponsors are big corporations, they are not going to pay top dollar if it is not going to get them max value back. The coming Tri-Nations will be proof of that.

As for braaing under the African sun, yip, have no choice as there is no electrical power in the kitchen. My parents are raising the brick wall as the 6 strand electric wire is now useless.

777 rumour

This was probably started by management to stop the bleeding away of pilots scattering to all corners of the globe.
