Hi Folks!

Anyone around here working for MK? I'm going to an interview next week in Cape Town for a F/O position on the 742.

Any good tips will be greatly appreciated!

That sounds like most oldschool jobs....

MK will bond you for the costs of the JAA ATPL. 10 000 GBP.

Suitcaseman, not entirely correct... conversion requirements vary depending on license held and experience. For the theory exams, you are exempt from any groundschool if you hold an ICAO ATPL. As far a flying goes, you cannot hold a JAA ATPL unless you have a type rating on a Multi Pilot aeroplane. JAA has a defined list of "multi pilot aeroplanes" (MPA).

If you hold an ICAO ATPL, are type rated on a MPA and have at least 500 hours on type, then you can convert your ATPL by doing a standard 6-monthly Prof Check with a UK CAA inspector to observe.

If you hold an ICAO ATPL, but are not type-rated on a MPA, then you can undertake a full typerating course at a UK training organisation. In this case the final flight test qualifies for license conversion and again, has to be observed by the UK CAA.

MK are now a UK accredited training organisation and are actually offering the guys a pretty good deal- compared to the average £20K charged for an A320/B737 rating by other schools- and with a job offer attached to it.

Lets have a reality check.. MK offering you a JAA license with a 747 type rating. If you don't have an ATP already you won't get a look in. either way for the majority of guys in SA this is a very good deal. You say you can't get a job at SAA because of BEE so why not go to MK? It's heavy jet time that you otherwise not going to get! To all the people who been cussing them over the years have met the guys around the track, they motivated professionals doing a tough job. They now operating on a UK AOC on UK license's. lot's changed there over the years... But don't kid yourselves it's not an easy option, lot of work and a big adjustment from flying your turbo props!! be prepared for a steep uphill curve
