Renting a light twin or high performance single in SA?
Hi Chaps
I am a UK pilot looking to rent a light twin or high performance single in South Africa. Would be a 10day rental for a scenic cross country. We would be 4 (large) guys with camping gear - so I need the load performance. I am particulary partial to a beech baron or saratoga - but open to suggestions... Any of you guys know of a flight school/FBO that: a) would have something suitable? b) can handle a 10-12day rental? Am pretty flexible with regard to location Many thanks rmdr2 |
I would expect that it would be in the region of 15-20hrs for the trip
I have 42hrs on a B55 |
Foreign Licence Validations
Hello rrndr2,
It is a nice idea to come to South Africa and fly around. We have a beautiful country. A high performance single or a twin may be a tall order. There is however one obstacle ... the SACAA's requirements for a foreign validation are somewhat cumbersome. Go to their website: www.caa.co.za => AIC's => Index of AIC's => Then past "Validation of foreign pilot licences" into the PDF search. You will see a notice of March 2007: 30.7 of 07-03-16. I hold USA, UK and SA licences. I know that the USA have a very relaxed approach to flying there on a foreign licence but the rest of the world does not really follow suit. There are many good training organisation who will take you through the process. |

I know of a C206 available but you'll probably require a school appointed safety pilot along to satisfy the insurance bloke.
