HELP!! Clearances for Moz, Swazi, Zambia, Botswana...

Can someone help me with this? I've got no idea where to start when it comes to getting clearances for these countries flying out of SA - I'm based in the UK by the way. If anyone could let me know the procedure, I'd be most grateful!

Thanks!. . :) . .AB

Hi,. .for flying from RSA to Botswana you don't need a clearance, just an international flight plan, to enter Zambia you need to have a Zambian air force clearance (you can have it from most of airport of entry in Rsa). .I never been in Swazi, so i don't know.. .I have been one time to Mozambique from Zambia without clearance but I think you need one.. .Safe flight.

Hi Aerobatfink ,

As 4144r said you don't need a clearance for RSA and Botswana.. .In the other countries you will need a clearance .. .Contact Verity Daniels at Execujet ( [email protected]) and ask her how to get those clearances . If you have to use Execujet to get the clearances be aware it is not cheap.

Good flights in Southern Africa ,

GUSTO

Thanks for the info! However, to be honest I don't even know where to start when it comes to getting a clearance (ie who do I get it from?), and I've no idea how long it takes to arrange, especially from the UK! Can anyone give me some guidance on this?. . :) . .AB

Gusto is correct, if you use Verity Daniels for all your clearances she canno't be beat, I have used her and her co-workers to solve many problems with foreign government clearances and the service was supreme.

You should however be aware the cost can be signifigant, in fact it is in all likelyhood beyond the amount that most private operations could justify.

Best to e-mail Verity and get it straight from her. [email protected]. ................. . :) The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no. :)

In the UK the information is published in the CAP555 - Oversea's Non-scheduled Flight Clearence Guide (75 GBP from Westward Documedia Tel 01242 235151). Also AIS at LHR may be able to assist (Tel 020 8745 3471). This information is also published in AIC 76/2000.

In practical terms you ideally need access to the AFTN system as a lot of countries CAA's have AFTN Links. Otherwise its down to phone or fax (and the best of luck from someone who used to do it for a living!)

Hope this help's.

AeroB,

You don't need a clearance for Swazi, either.

As the other guys say, get hold of a pro. to do it for you, it's an absolute pain to do it yourself. Execujet, as mentioned, are excellent. If you don't come right with them, try what used to be Jeppesen Memrykord in Crawley (I think they've changed owners/names since I last used them). The last phone number I have is 01293 546446, ask for Bob Catt if he's still there. (I haven't used them since 1997, so hope the number is still valid.)

Whoever you use will need your proposed dates and routes of flight, plus a/c reg., purpose of flight and captain's name. The time taken varies, but allow at least a week.

Good luck <img src="wink.gif" border="0">
