South African CAA medical requirements

I hold a current New Zealand CAA class one medical. Would this be recognised by the South African CAA?.Also, would anybody know the eyesight limits for the medical exam. I am -3.25 in each eye. Many Thanks.

I don't think you will have a problem with your prescription - when I did my medical, 2 years ago, the limit was -6.

Check the SA CAA website on www.caa.co.za or phone the Institute of Aviation Medicine in Pretoria.

Not sure if they will recognise your NZ medical, I have a feeling you still need to do the full SA medical.

Good luck

Hi

I took my Class One medical in SA about 6 months ago and from speaking to the doctor it transpired that the prescriptioon of one's corrective lenses doesn't matter if you can see 20/20 when using them. My prescription is about -2.5 Dioptres in each and it wasn't a problem. I think that so long as your vision is normal and your eyes function effectively you shouldn't have any hassles.

US $100.00 neatly placed in an envelope with the right name on it should get you just about any license you need these days.
