First Job in Kenya?
 

heeey i am currently just doing my ATPL! i lived in kenya, MBA for a while, and i fell in love with the place, i am hoping to go back out and live there! any tips of jobs, airline...private, anything!

Work permits I understand are a real problem to get for foreign pilots.
If you manage to get one then doors can open.
It is a great place to fly.

Feel free to ask about any advice.
work permits are very hard to obtain if not impossible unless you have local pull.
Validation process is a lengthy process that will make you go crazy!
What is your time, type of aircraft flown?

I'm a Canadian pilot who is also looking at making the journey to Kenya. If the invitation for questions is open, I also have a few that perhaps you could answer for me.

ie. How long does the license conversion take? Can the process be started from Canada prior to traveling to Kenya? Does you significant other live there with you, and if so what's their experience been?

I'm looking at going early in 2008. I've got a DHC8 endorsement and nearing 5000 hrs now.

Hey, im a Kenyan who as JAR CPL & IR Multi , low hour pilot from OAT. Do you know what eactly is require to convert to the Kenyan License? I know sim time is not recognised there

- the conversion takes about 3 weeks on average with cases that have gone as far as 4 months, come with an ATPL in hand that saves a massive amount of time. You also want to do this with the help of a local company, going it alone is a very tough task. Make sure all your licenses, medical, radio etc etc are all up to date.

- With 5000Hrs and a DHC-8 you will have no problem to find work, but find a company befor setting sail. (DAC aviation is one of them, canadian based in montreal)

- nothing can be done from canada (you can study a bit), just make sure you have all the papers ready when you arrive.

Why do Africans always portray themselves so badly! With a MBA degree you could get a job as a teacher in college or in a university and please do not tell me that in Kenya you guys do not have schools! You can always find Africans in website like this one begging, please let’s stop begging and have enough with what we have!

I think MBA stands for Mombassa in this case and the original poster is from the UK (United Kingdom).

Jobs in Kenya are in wholesale...GA is just begging for Pilots...with tourism booming and lack of pilots....although work permits might be a bit of problem for foreigners.

Also we have all these new start ups as well as the national carrier snapping up pilots as they get churned out.

I realise this shortage of pilots right now is actually worldwide...coz in the US all these regional carriers are picking up alot of pilots right out of flight school

Kenya is a nice place to live and work. Once you get your work permit you can decide if you want to dwell in Nairobi or Mombasa which are the best cities to foster you piloting career. Wish you luck in your future endeavours.
