Durban International to get new name!!!

Here we go..... once the name changing has started it ain't going to stop.....:ugh:
Welcome to the banana republic......:mad:

"Durban International Airport (DIA) could soon be renamed Moses Mabhida International Airport if Durban's Ethekwini municipality has its way, the Mercury reported on Friday.
Renaming the airport has been placed on the agenda of the next full council meeting of the Ethekwini municipality, which is expected to be held late January.

The move has raised the eyes of opposition parties who claim no formal resolution was put forward at an executive council meeting on Wednesday.

Moses Mabhida, the former general secretary of the SA Communist Party, died in 1986 in the Mozambican capital of Maputo.

Last week he was re-buried in Pietermaritzburg at a ceremony which saw President Thabo Mbeki being booed from the stage by supporters of ANC deputy president Jacob Zuma.

Democratic Alliance councillor John Steenhuizen said, "I don't think it is much of an honour (to Mabhida) if you are going to put his name on an airport that could be demolished in three years time".

DIA is set to be de-commissioned in 2009 when the planned King Shaka International Airport is set to open in La Mercy, north of the city.

Airport name changes

As far as I am concerned, they can call the airports what they want, "Pinocchio Int.", "F--K Head Int.",etc., as long as the aviation and related industries progress, or............remain the same!

On a humerous note, I heard an aircraft calling FAJS tower 'Oliver Tambo Tower' as he got handed over on the ILS. As he turned off and got handed over to Ground, the female ATC politely reminded him 'For future reference, we are called Johannesburg Tower'. Take that you dumbass politicians! We, the USERS of the place will call it what it is....

Many thanks to JOHANNESBURG Tower, and JOHANNESBURG Area etc etc!

Yikes, JS approach used to have some "prestige" now we're just relegated to "etc, etc" !!!

;) ;)

Are there any famous "coloureds" whose names can be used? Saartjie Baardman comes to mind:yuk:

"SAARTJIE BAARDMAN APPROACH, THIS IS MANGO 123" - this just rolls off the tongue - sounds like a Leon Schuster movie!:suspect:

Rude Boy 15th Dec 2006 11:10

Hilarious:p

cavortingcheetah 15th Dec 2006 11:38

:hmm:

It is, one fears, very unlikely that one shall ever again line up on the ILS at FAJS, but, were it ever to happen, one could surely hardly resist the temptation to call Johannesburg tower '

'Tambo Towers'
(Deep bongo voce, of course!)

Those students of Basil Fawlty might perhaps derive wry amusement from the reference. Those of architecture might gainfully prepare themselves for the shambles that habitually arise from the construction of inner city tenement blocks, inhabited by those on the lower levels of the social plane.:eek:

Will the current Honourable Minister of Health also be honoured with an Airport name?

Will she settle for Garlic International or Beetroot International.

What about IAMNOLIARZUMA International or rather WASHAZUMA International ?:{

Witraz 16th Dec 2006 11:32

And I thought Durban was going to be renamed New New Delhi:}

Dct no speed 17th Dec 2006 04:49
