Yes i think the same!
Why they just don't use two Boeing 737-900ER ,range: 3800NM fuel burn: 2000 kgs by hours! for 215 paxs! I believe starting with a new type ERJ190 it's pure crazy! nobody use this aircraft in Africa yet! you have to send all pilots and ground crew for training! let's see:sad:   jock |
There is already a Malawian 737-300 flying for Air Tanzania. As for where the 767's would come from, Gulf Air is due to replace their one's so I'm sure they would give ATC and the Tanzanian goverment a good deal on them. As for the ERJ's 190's, don't know much about the type but with the thin routes here it is actually the right size. Saw the demonstrator here not so long ago.
Money isn't a problem here, Tanzania is one of Africa's golden boys right now. Though a complete overhaul of the company is nescesary. Plus along with aircraft a large influx of cash is needed after the company was strip mined by certain people and companies. The Domestic market is rather thin for ATC especially with the road improvement program going on. But the thing that ATC does have going is the fact that it still has a load of international routes which would be very profitable. Many consider these routes the only real reason SAA was intrested in ATC. |
Well, if the Tanzanian government finally do something and recapitalize the business then perhaps they have a chance. Having dealt regularly with the guys who were seconded there during the partnership I can only say that the potential exists but the cost of unlocking the potential is not worth the effort in terms of an investor- you can make more cash utilizing the required assets elsewhere- that’s why SAA refused their repeated requests for equipment.
Im pretty sure they will be looking around in due course for another partner to pay the bills. |

Don't care to elaborate, Big brother is watching.
Lot's of opertunities here for the company but they have been exploited by individuals and companies which I will leave unamed. |
What about doing a Virgin Tanzania? i think this can be very good for Tanzania
as Virgin will take all the big hands of the management of the cookie jar...haha |
Air Malawi is not flying fo Air Tanzania! wrong information!
jock |
Funny, you should tell who ever is flying the 737 in Malawi colours. They seem to think they are ATC, at least when they call the tower for clearance.
|
very true about Air Malawi flying for ATC...
currently they are in financial difficulties ever since they received their second 737, so have been trying to make some money on the side. I know for a fact that Air Malawi have advertised their aircrafts for lease at a ridiculous price...:hmm: now just waiting until that aircraft will be based in tanzania full time... |
Guys something is wrong! i was in the Air Tanzania office last week from the Operation Officer, they don't use Air Malawi!
Jock |
I guess they picked up the wrong briefing folder in Dispatch :}
Seen the Malawian 737 here several times, not all the time but several times. It's especially noticable when both Malawian 737's are in Dar at the same time. |
atcl
hello ladies and gents and those of you who are not too sure of yourselves(that would be you sbc)
here is the news you have been waiting for so long, atcl is getting 2 x 732 sometime in mid november to keep the airline running whilst the "new business plan" is being approved by the govt,as to wht that is, is a mystery to most of us working for the company aswell...however from time to time we have been using the air malawi 735 when our fleet of ever reliable planes were either grounded or short of crew duty time/hours...no big deal everyone does that from time to time...its true that we had the erj 190 demonstrator brought up here to have a look at as whether it will be replacing our fleet is still mystery to all of us,in the meantime sit back relax and enjoy the flight... keep it up there fellows, no more 406pilot |
