Arik Air, Transcorp Airline, et. al

Hello ppruners,

Just in:

Arik Air has purchased 2 ex-UAL 737-300s but the aircraft are still parked in Arizona. Anyone with the scoops? What is going on and when will this airline, and the proposed airline by Transcorp, begin operations?

Thanks y'all.

Rani, transcorp recently refuted the story that it intends to go into the airline business. It willrather concentrate in hotels and oil.
Interestingly, a couple of new local airlines seem to be planning to be making a debut in nigeria despite the turmoils in the sector.

Aero is really having a field day in the countrytand has infact increased its daily frequency to abuja to about three services a day.Coupledwith that they were awareded the best airline of the year by thisday.Alot of pax i have come into contact with will rather fly aero than VK!!

An anonymous airline has been advertising in a few local daily papers for Captains, FOs and other airline staff for a 737-300/400 and CRJ200/900 fleet. rumors flying aboout indicate its Arik Air. Fleet is supposed to be 4 X 737s, 4 X CRJ and 2 X Hawker 800XP.

Ok any more news on Arik? Apparently they purchased the Nigerian Airways HQ, hangar, training school, and aircraft (1 X DC-10, 3 X A310, 4 X 737-200) for N1.7bilion (aprox $12 mil). they are working together with JAT to form a sort of Ethiopain Airlines type maintainance facility. they are going to overhaul all the aircraft, i've noticed the -10 was given a bath recently. The Airways headquaters right now is undergong some serious renovation.

its true

Arik is definitely ramping up.
They have just taken on a GM and are interviewing Maintenance Directors, amongst other roles.

They require a maintenance director to establish and manage a complete maintenance program.
This will involve the setting up of facilities, hiring of personnel, arrangement of "shared parts agreements" with other airlines, as well as all other responsibilities.
You will have undertaken an identical role previously for an international airline, and as such will be familiar with all local regulations and bodies.
This is a very challenging role and as such comes with exceptional compensation.
