Jobhunting in East Africa

Hi everybody,

I am coming to East Africa in July for a month of holiday and jobhunting. It seems to me that thats the way to get a job in Africa...

I have a few days in Addis Ababa before flying to Nairobi. Then 1 month of travelling in Kenya, Tanzania (also Zanzibar) before flying home from Nairobi.

I am planning to bring copies of my logbook, licenses (CPL, ATPL), medical and then visit some of the companies I have found on the internet (Ethiopian, Kenya airlines, Kahl, Kenkargo, Astral, ALS, Airkenya, Air Tanzania, Precision air).

I dont know if its a good idea contacting the companies before I go?

Does anyone have any tips regarding my trip?

Basically Ill take any kind of job, as long as Im flying. Precision air seems to be one of the best chances. I am willing to pay a typerating but then I dont have the typerating when I go there...

Any tips will be very welcome. Thanks...

PS:
I have 500 TT, currently flying C206 (skydivers).

:D

Do a search on this forum. You'll find pretty much all you need to know.

I have searched this forum and have found many usefull tips but I was hoping to get some more Up-to-date info regarding the "job"-situation in Tanzania and Kenya... Maybe someone can tell me if its realistic to hope for a chance in Zanzibar?

jobs in kenya

Hi there,
Not sure about the others but while in Kenya, go to Wilson airport and beat up and down the rows. Have good copies of your c.v. and logs books etc. Have a few beers at the aero club of east africa, and see whats up. The availability of jobs is usually there, but u are a little low on time. Sometimes its not a problem, but it can be. It changes day by day. The main thing there is it takes a long time 6 months to convert your license to a Kenya license. U have to write exams etc.. the booking and waiting for results is very time consuming.
best i can do.
take care
andy
