Netstar Chopper

Does anyone know whether the Netstar chopper flies around JHB when not looking for stolen vehicles or is it only used when searching for stolen/hijacked cars? I have been seeing it regularly flying the JHB skies wandering if each time someone has been hijacked? I know it happens a lot in JHB and I spose the chopper is another reminder to always be aware of the danger on our city roads!! :( :(

CD:-Netstar (and others) only despatch their choppers on a "call out " principal, otherwize Netstar (and others) vehicle tracking providers would have to quadrupille their monthly premiums to folks like you and I, to have their pilots logging 12 hours a day 7 days a week, playing "eye in the sky" to watch our beloved four and two wheelers!!

They have operators using R44's in Jhb, Durban and Cape Town as well as a few other areas. (Listen out for the callsign Netstar One & Two in Dbn and Cpt). They operate day & night VFR on a call-out basis to track the stolen vehicles' signals and then to guide the recovery team's vehicle to the spot. The fact that you see them so much (and they're not always the branded R44's) proves that the published figures on declining hi-jacking and stolen vehicles are perhaps somewhat suspicious.:hmm:

Cargo

I live right next to Grand Central (end of runway 17) and hear the Netstar robbie nearly every night and into the early hours of the morning - if my handheld is close by, I listen in on frequency and it is only them flying out on the late night sorties..

Highjack figures released by the "officials" = cr@p.

If we only hear / see the Netstar choppers, I wonder how many other vehicles go affirmative shopping that we don't know about..? (mine is with a ground-based recovery company, using GSM triangulation).

The last two days in G (angsters) P (aradise) have seen 4 or 5 seperate cash-in-transit heists and armed robberies at shopping centres - every one has involved stolen cars used as hit and escape vehicles, with the damaged ones abandoned at the scene.. the same incidents have resulted in maybe 1 or 2 arrests..

Aint' it great...

Shame Rhodie so every time a car goes missing you get less sleep at night!! I did my PPL at Gc a while back, so now I know if I'm coming in for 17 I will try and keep the noise to a minimum!!
pity about all the crime!! As you say the stats make you feel a bit better but we all know they are a bit 'souped up'!!

Was just thinking about the many times we did EFATO's after takeoff on 35!! I'm sure the spot I used to pick within the 30 deg. of the nose was probably Rhodies back garden, let alone the empty pond!!

Aw, c'mon guys, be nice... :E

Bert, got water and big fish in there now, but crocs... Now there's an idea... should stop the b@stards cutting my fence.. :E

Cargo - that's prob. my place off the nose - but don't worry - if you do a lob into my garden, I'll bring you a large Scotch (medicinal purposes only, of course) - nice thing is... I get salvage rights...!! I need to add to the stuff in the bar room... :ok:
