Congo Crash
Have just heard about a Caravan crash in the Congo in the past few days. Apparently two UN related aircraft took off a few minutes apart on a similar track. One missed the hills in low cloud, the other didn't! Apparently pilot was killed, but no news of the two other passengers aboard.
Does anyone else have any more news?? |
Info please..UNHCR or Echo???
Any ideas as to where this took place. Weve got a Van in Mbuji Mayi but have no access to info while on vacation where I am....
thanks 4g |
hi
hi cathy ,
sorry don't know anything about that .check your PM ,percy |
I've been making enquies and checking the 'net but cannot find any record of a recent Van loss in Congo/DRC. Also soke to a few insurance assessors, who are usually the first to hear these things, but nothing. Hopefully, it didn't happen and no pilot got killed.

Not sure but...
What Ive heard is that it was the Airserve Van outa Goma in very bad weather....Nothing left apparently.
Sorry to hear it and will post if anything new comes in. Off the topic but apparently a Hewabora 72 burst all its tyres in Bukavu yesterday as well. Probably off loading soldiers for the up coming conflict in the region...wey hey cant wait to get back to work....!! Later 4g |
Hey 4G
Whats up Bud? Long time no hear... All well this side. |
It's weird that there has been no report regarding this loss, particualrly if it involved fatal injuries.
Foxcotte, where did your info come from? |
POOPSCOOP!!

Well and you? Enjoying a bit of the Med before returning to the wild west of DRC. You still on the Diesel 8?? Best regards 4g:cool: |
Three killed in DRC plane crash
Tears As Pilot's Body Arrives From the second article: At the time of his death, Kisoso was flying another plane belonging Transworld Safaris, who he was working for. He crashed in the crater of Nyarigongo hills, in Goma, DRC, at the volcanic mountain that erupted three years ago, causing havoc in the Central African country. The plane did not burst into flames. |
Confirmed but not Airserve..
Well there you have it ..experienced pilot; into hills...CFIT once again (in my humble opinion of course)..
Be carefull out there guys, its one of the most hostile territories to fly in this DRC, Great Lakes....War, weather and territtory.. Keep your wits and dont go below MSA!!!!! RIP 4G edited for even worse spelling... |
Well, now its out in the press, I guess I have the answers to the crash. CFIT in hilltop IMC. Real shame for the pilot, pax and their families. Pole Sana!

4g - bit of water under the bridge since the 8. Drop me a line at [email protected]

Agree with 4g, experienced pilot, CFIT, etc etc. But Goma to Walikale is quite a flight, and scud running on this leg can constantina your aircraft. Walikale is not an airport, you descend into a valley and land on a narrow road. Just north of Goma is a huge mountain, not a hill as stated by the pilot's brother.
I'm sorry but I don't buy ' the crash was caused by bad weather, which resulted in poor vis.' That neck of the woods is beautiful on a good day and deadly on a bad day. I remember Walikale being dropped by local experienced pilots when the ceiling was low. Rest in peace and lets hope lessons have been learn't. |
Putco..!
