Air traffic angst
June 25, 2004

In the past few months, there has been an inordinate increase in the number of aircraft flying over Table view, which development has occurred with no explanation and/or public participation.

On querying the above, I was advised by the Airports Company of SA and ATFC that "only" between three and
10 aircraft overfly Table view daily.

This past weekend, at my count, no less than 69 large aircraft flew over my house (plus several light aircraft, not included in this figure), several of which I photographed.

This is clearly unacceptable, and I think that no court would find it a reasonable intrusion on the residents' rights to peace and quiet, and a safe environment. Not only does it pose a risk to the value of the properties, and residents' health, but loss of income is being experienced as a result.

With the Blaauwberg region currently the fastest growing suburb in the country, one would have thought that the relevant authorities might show some consideration for the unhealthy environmental impacts already forced upon residents. To name but a few: all day, very noisy racing at Killarney racetrack, especially on Sundays; smells and spills at Potsdam sewerage works; ditto the Caltex refinery; Koeberg Power Station; and the noxious Vissershok toxic waste site.

Now we must accept an average of 70 Boeings flying over our homes every weekend, and too many to count during the week? I think not.

Is some accountability from the authorities too much to ask?

Low and slow in a 737-200, flaps out on the back side of the power curve.

B Sousa 25th Jun 2004 18:00

Pontius' Pilot 26th Jun 2004 05:16

$hit an average of 70 Boeings per weekend, imagine how busy it really is when he includes all the Airbusses, CRJ's, ERJ's and DC9's.

I think he has a problem :{

Sounds like Mr L Walters has the "7 year ITCH" and i recommend he go and find himself a nice quite spot in the Karoo where he can expire peacefully...

PS: How about we all chip in and buy the old fart a couple of tickets for the Ysterplaat airshow??? "You know, a little farewell present and all"

You should have been in the radar room when it phoned in to complain!!

I was not there meself, but 2 of my colleagues had to be booked off sick for 3 weeks, they fell off their chairs laughing so much.....

As ol B Sousa says where is the Heuy????

There is no truth in the rumour that all B737-200s and B727s WILL be routed via Table View

ps Lifeline's number is 0214611111. (they care)
