Idiot on 126.900??
 

Heard the other day around BKO some weird call on 126.900, something like "Hey partner" and blablabla. Didn't think much of it, until it happend again, about 2 weeks later, same voice, same crap. This time it clearly was an American voice.

Didn't hear the callsign, nor did I hear him on BKO.

Does anyone know who this clown is, and has anyone heard this also??

My friend, I also flying in Africa, and the other day I was flying around BZV , and I also hearing a possible comunication on 126.9, with an american accent, about THE PARTNER MEN, or something like that

I think it was pretty funny, please keep the blue side on top.

Personally i don't think it's funny at all. Same kind of people haven't got the slightest clue of where they are, but yet deem it necessary to have fun on the radio. :yuk:

Are you the same guy who calls the CAA everytime an Airplane flys over your house? Next time turn your volume down then you wont have to listen to someone enjoying the airways.

No I don't call the CAA, and frankly don't understand your point of enjoying the airway, is this how you enjoy the airway? If these kind of calls are made every now and then, it's ok, but after a while they get very annoying, especially if they're continous....

I asked if people have heard these simular calls, and didn't asked for your oh so professional advise.

I would have to agree with wheelchock. It is very unprofessional to abuse any freq. I have also heard such calls in the past, and also got annoyed with it. I don't think people should enjoy "The Airways" in such manner.

Now, I don't know where 126.9 is used - my chart in the patch of sky where I hang out (SA, Zim, Bots and Namibia) doesn't have that freq. listed, so I do not know if it is a busy freq.

What I do know is that 'chats' on the busy (i.e. GF) freq. would not be tolerated - if we hear a friendly on the radio we can always call for numbers, but that said - I have on occasion heard a familiar voice and exchanged greetings with said party - you may not see the speaker for months on end and sometimes, in deepest darkest Africa, it's great to hear an old friend and say hello. There are times when info is passed on, conditions at destination (when out of range of same) and sometimes very vital news - otherwise, just an invite for a cold one when down and de-paxed..

Some of my friends do indeed have a "American accent", but I try not to hold that against them... :E

Next time the 'partner' calls - if it's busy, tell him to change to numbers, if not, say hello - I have met some fantastic people and good friends like that.

126.9 is the Inflight Broadcast Frequency used for air-to-air communications over more than 90% of the African continent. It's probably the bussiest VHF frequency in use anywhere. It's use has minmised and prevented many incidents and accidents.

It's use I believe is imperative to aviation safety over Africa and it keeps all of international traffic flowing as smoothly as possible all through the continent.

126.9 is not used in the same manner as 123.45 since it's intention is to maintain own seperation in poorly or un-controlled areas. :8

I must agree that it is not a 'chat' frequency - but I still say a friendly voice in unfriendly skies is good to hear...

I am always trying to enjoy the more finer things in life, if they're available..... As for this freq, 126.9 has explained that very well.

I feel the same way like you, I would also use a freq to say a quick hello, and then ask to come up on 12345. However this individual, "The Partner", keeps blabbing away on it, to no one, just shouting "Hey partner what's up man?" There's nobody else on the freq at the time, so haven't got a clue to whom he's talking, but I presume to himself. It's just very annoying to hear it over and over again.

I have the feeling if I would answer him, the story will never stop...Therefore I think I'll leave it like it is. I'm just wondering who it is, and why is he doing it.

At the same time he's not using the freq where it's for, this makes me wonder where he is, maybe on a colition course??? That's why I'm a bit ticked off with the guy.

Sounds like some d1ckhead on the ground maybe, with a handheld calling whoever flies over...

Agree on ignoring him - but if he persists, I find Napalm works very well.... :E

You get your shorts in a bunch too easily. I also agree that main frequencies are not for BS calls. There are times though when folks are hangin it out over the humid green and its quiet. Sometimes its good to hear a human without. "Eaaah"
Relax a bit maybe someone will even answer you someday....

No you haven't managed to piss me off yet, unless you're "The Partner" of course. If you agree that the freq is not for bs, why are you keep on nagging then? And if you think that this feq is not a "main" one, then pls don't bother coming up north.

Careful guys, last time the happenings on 126.900 were discussed in these pages it ended up in the Sunday Times as news.

Wheelchock, I think the problem is that we disagree on what is a busy frequency. For instance busy and no nonsense to me is daily when I am in a stack of 15-20 Helicopters trying to get ATC to give clearance into Class B airspace while we are holding outside, as one of about 15 controllers is working his/her ass off to get another 15-20 727s-777s also into two runways simultaneously. At the same time working as many departures. There is no room for chit chat there.

My friends, no need to get so mad about the PARTNER, I was flying these days around Cotonou area, and who do i hear!!! HEY PARTNER, WHAT's UP MEN!!!, same voice, same salute....

Who is this guy, a sky phantom???:eek: or just an amateur pilot who wants to share his greeting to everyone???

The fack is that i several times called him back but it seemed he was gonne, the day after I hurd him again, but this time around, Libreville.... This time he answered me with a short HEY BRO!!!, the he disapeared.

In my opinion he is pretty funny, no harm is donne, he doen't keep the frequency that busy, just for few seconds...

If I encounter once again with THE PARTNER, guys...i will let you know
