Why Kano control is such a nightmare ?

That is a bit of an ironic post, but maybe I'll find some competent fellow ppruner who can give me an answer...

Why in such developing economy, rich of oil country, with so many heavy business jets around, they cannot put those extra few sectors up and running, send those people to Uk for some training and invest a bit in better equipement ?

Rich individuals can pay 20k usd for an experienced glex captain per month, thinking he will save them from all the evil, and cannot at the same time put a pressure on the administration to really avoid some serious danger and improve the atc and radar coverage quality.

And lastly, can anyone tell me do they really don't hear me when I am calling them flying just over Kano city or they are just so ignorant...

DonPablo.... quite frankly, I don't know if you meant it this way but your post is satirically humorous! This part especially - "Rich individuals can pay 20k usd for an experienced glex captain per month, thinking he will save them from all the evil..."

I tell you this...until 1 or 2 of those 'rich folk' have had their taste of the fruits of substandardization, they don't care really! As far as their drivers can say "gear up, gear down" successfully. ..they dont give 2 spoons!

I'm Nigerian, (Future EY Pilot). What's your instrument? For whom do you fly? etc?

Indeed, it was supposed to be like this, but in beneath I am looking for an answer if anyone ever tried to tell or made any comments on what is happening at rush hours, with thunderstorms around, and those guys who seem not to have a clue what is going on...

I operate from outside Nigeria and occasionally fly in and out there on a midsize business jet. I must add also, that in ASECNA lands I have never found such an incompetence like there (though there is not so much traffic but still...).

having operated a heavy out of KAN, its a case of knowing your and knowing their limitations.

You're a pilot - deal with it.

I think the problem in large parts of Sub Sahara Africa is mindset.

When the equiment is bought it works as intended.

Sadly, no one realises that to keep it working it needs a bit of maintenance and occasionally replacement.

This applies to the staff as well.

The guys are trying to do their best so help them all you can.

here is my Kano story:-
Once in a BCAL DC10, We were cleared to land at KANO by the approach controller. When on the runway we were instructed to contact the tower for taxi instructions. When we called the tower and requested taxi instructions he refused to give them as we hadn't cleared to land by the tower. We pointed out that we had landed but he insisted we ask him for landing clearance before he would allow us to taxi to the gate!! Oh well, it was Africa

Rogerg

We may have flown together.

I was one of the first BA captains to join the DC10 fleet after the merger.

It was good fun in those days.

Fact is Kano has two frequencies. Kano East and Kano West. 124.1 and 182.5. That is manned by one person. So at times he might be on the other frequency when you call him. Also a lot of times those radios are poorly maintained and whenever we complain they tell us that they are working with what has been provided.

Thank you Cyclopps, is it always manned by one person? I cannot distinct the voices anyway as they are so ununderstandable... And again if so, why country of such huge potential and so rich with oil cannot put two controllers there ??

Well NGR001 doesn't fly NGR001.

Isnt 124.1 & 128.5 manned by a single controller only during the graveyard ?

Just read a notam saying Abuja Approach radar is U/S. Are u sure it wasn't switched off for procedural training they like so much.
