Hard to say, differs a lot. Certainly much better than in Namibia, but it largely depends on the company you fly with. You will find anything ranging from the ubiquitous "Will fly for food" deals where your work your butt off to $5000 dollar deals where you're pampered with hardly any flying. Housing and other allowances can differ largely, too.
I reckon the average is probably somewhere between $2000-$3000 gross.

Spoke to chap flying Caravans in TZ a few months ago.
He got about 2500 USD and his "first officer" was getting 500 USD a month until he got 1000 hours - the insurers wouldn't cover him for command until he had 1000 hrs.
Higher rates with higher hours.

Keep in mind Tanzanian companies usually cover your housing/travel/electricity.
The only real expense you have would be food. (which is usually covered when overnighting outside your home base).
So think about it this way, its 2000$+ CASH MONEY in your bank account every month that you can keep on stacking.
Where i'm from even with my much higher salary due to all my monthly expenses (apartment, car, fuel, food, electricity) i was NOT able to save as much as I've been able to save here in Tanzania.

hi zelo, thanks for the info. well....if major cost like housing is catered for, then i guess 2000+ is bearable.... if the cost of food is fair. places like Kinshasa, Chad, etc...food cost can be quite high...where eating in hotel can be a big turn-off....

Everything is really affordable (with the exception of certain suburbs of Dar Es Salaam). Depending on your preference on the variety of local, indian, western or chinese cuisine you can easily have a full lunch or dinner anywhere between 4-10 USD in most places. Including drinks.
Bottom line is: you can get decent deals in Tanzania, the country is beautiful and the people are nice and it's safe. And if you spend over $400 of your net per month it is likely that you suffer from a massive alcohol-related problem

Disagree about the 'safe' thing. It may have friendly people and be relatively safe, but the amount of attempted car jackings and thefts is on the rise. Fact!
The traffic alone is enough reason to never go there.

Car jackings in Tanzania on the rise? Very interesting. Not sure where you're getting your stats from but from my time here this is the first I hear of this. Perhaps I must be a little more careful.
The place is safe. If you don't feel safe, get a dog. Everyone here is scared of dogs and stay away from certain beaches which have reputations for robberies. Besides that, for women, snatch and runs of purses is a common problem so I'd keep my purse close or just not bring it out at all...
I agree with the fellow above, 400$ a month in food expenditures is quite HIGH and you either have steaks every night or as he said, alcohol problems.

Dar Es Salaam (Jet Contract)
I did a jet contract (30 Days) for a Dar es. based company they only paid me partial and skipped town on the Per Diem. Although, was put up at good hotel (Sea Cliff). Had the pay been in full would have been $7500 USD all food expenses covered and had a driver. Flew Africa and Europe stayed Hilton hotels.
Sea Cliff hotel is probably one of the best places to stay on the Peninsula, A few good restaurants there too, but the drive from sea cliff to airport can be up to 3hrs+ at times. Believe me, ive done it.
Yes car-jackings have happened. Yes burglaries and robbery was on the rise. Our 'so-called' secure house was robbed by the security guard! Lot of haves and have-nots unfortunately. The poverty is shocking. Begging is a way of life at the traffic lights with children as young as about 3-4 leading elderly blind lepers between cars begging for money or food. Captive audience in the cars, as you're trapped in the traffic jams during rush hours.
I actually enjoyed my time in Tz.
