Air Namibia - Trouble again?

Cancelled flights, not explained fuel stops in Luanda and thus resulting delays:

Seems that this tiny little airline is struggling again:

Things are not going well at Air Namibia: Engen draai Air Nam se brandstofkraan toe but @Takeoverpb, your comment is false and misleading. Aviation in Namibia is nowhere near European standards for example but the industry is run based on standard norms despite the lack of skills, infrastructures and resources.

Agreed that New York can be as dangerous as Namibia. Where did that comment come from? A bad experience?

Air Namibia saved - again

Air Namibia has been saved again from the government by providing 1.1 Billion N$ (about 120 Mio USD) for 2013/14, allowing them to pay their bills.

Between 1999 and 2012 they gave them already 3.6 Billion N$, about 400 Mio USD.

Further, they'll get 2x new A330-200, leased from October and November 2013 on.

The government throws a lot of money in their national airline. The question is: Does their concept work this time? I have my doubts.

Sounds to me as if they are learning from their neighbours in SA. The main difference is that Air Namibia (which I still remember as SuidWes Lugdiens) has no competition.

Air Namibia Status

Guys what is the status of this airline now? I am being recruited and want to make sure I am not walking into a nightmare. What about SMS and safety and quality standards? How many posers (impostors) are in there in management who have no clue? Sorry but I have been around the block a few times and it seems our industry attracts more vagabonds than others!

With all the fears you have about Namibia, what the hell did you apply for? I suggest you do your homework in advance next time. Go somewhere else and free the place you are about to take to someone else, if I were you.

Prince....Chill.....The guy is asking legitimate questions that any adult would like to know before committing to something. If you have insight, please contribute. Positive experiences? Negatives? Things to look out for? Jamestaylor obviously has been around the block because he is well aware of both people working abroad in developing nations that have made various claims about their experience. Additionally, locals that are political appointees or related to someone higher up and have NO idea of what they're doing, much to the chagrin of everyone.

I am frozen, not only chilled; just can't understand why someone waits to get hired then comes up with these kind of questions? Why did he apply in the first place if he suspected poor safety levels and impostor managers.

He never implied either, it was an inquiry. Why are you getting so wound up? Can you think of a better venue than an anonymous chat to ascertain the scoop on a potential employer? Isn't that the point of these forums? How do you know he even applied?????? Notice that he said recruited and not, applied to and was called. The Captain is probably registered with an international staffing company such as Rishworth or Parc and they contacted HIM with a potential contract. So the gentleman is making some quiet inquiries with his fellow aviators to find out more. What's the problem? Are you upset that he's possibly coming to Namibia and taking your deserved position in the left seat? Or that Mzungu come to fly metal bird and take all African money away? Btw, I don't know who Jamestaylor is, I don't work in Namibia and I fly shiny metal bird and take money from African village.

News update :

Windhoek, 17th June 2013: Air Namibia is pleased to announce and to inform its clients and stakeholders in totality that, the delivery dates for its two brand new Airbus A330-200 aircraft is drawing closer.



The first aircraft is expected to arrive in September 2013 and the second one to enter fleet in November 2013. The two A330-200 planes will be leased from Intrepid Aviation.


Mr. Michael Ngapurue, the Acting Managing Director of Air Namibia said that, “The Airbus A330-200 aircraft is ideal for Air Namibia’s operation and continues to be an economically efficient aircraft for airlines around the world. The two aircraft will be used primarily on Air Namibia’s long haul route, between Windhoek and Frankfurt.


Air Namibia‘s on-board hard‘ product (seats and Inflight Entertainment System) will improve significantly with the introduction of these planes, and will contribute to meeting customer needs more optimally, while giving Air Namibia lower cost operating cost advantages”.


The A330-200 planes will come in a seat configuration of 244 seats, of which 30 are in business class and 214 in the economy class. Business Class seats will be full flat, while all seats in the aircraft including economy class will have “video/audio on demand” with individual monitors for each passenger.
