Hello All,

I am a pilot for American Airlines and was wondering how difficult it was to jump seat from Entebbe to Nairobi if I have a Zed Ticket and my ID..
Also if anyone can give me an idea of how heavy the loads are in the middle of June between cities, that would be great. Thanks in advance!

shouldnt be that difficult, but you need to identify yourself to the ground staff and show them your crew id as well, unless it is a training flight and all the crew jumpseats are occupied most of the time the Captains will oblige your request if you positively identify yourself as airline crew.
EBB to NBO loads are high for most part of the year, you might want to travel midweek if you can, chances are higher than on weekends

Amazing , most parts of the world NO ONE is allowed on the Flight Deck unless they are the carriers own FD crew , normally in uniform . Is this another instance of only the serious carriers in the world toeing the line ? I suppose some airlines are not worth hijacking ? Those were the days .

mmmh! at some point before answering i suspected this would be one of those queries that are turned into accusations of airlines at a certain part of the world not toeing the security line, not going to get into a fist fight over this, and discuss merits and demerits of it all, but companies have procedures incorporated in their operations manual on use of unoccupied jump seats in the cabin and in the flight deck, who qualifies who doesn't, be it company pilots or pilots from alliance partners, cabin crew etc and all this is done with security considerations as a corner stone, if the jumpseat is allocated within the prescribed guidelines in the ops. manual and i say again which is published with security and safety as key drivers then what is the problem i ask?

Anyhow there are always people like Kotakota foraging for controversy within these forums, to try and demonstrate their presumed higher level of security, safety and skill, if it makes you happy my friend......, if it makes you happy!

Wont be commenting further on this, so save it for the birds and yeah avoid the unsafe operators from this part of the world.

I really do appreciate you taking the time to answer this! We in the states are able to jump seat in the flight deck of multiple carriers. I have heard there are also international carriers that allow this as well so I thought I would take a chance to see what was going on in case I ran in to an unexpected emergency.

I do not know what kotakota's problem is! He does not even sound like a pilot..
But to each his own I guess.

I'm not sure East African Airlines operates any more. There is fly540 and Kenya Airways. Try emailing them direct, good luck!

"in most parts of the world" you'll find pilots actually stood up for themselves and didn't allow the desk jocks take away their privilege to choose who sits in their cockpit. The British airlines being the meekest in this respect.
Long live the airlines that apply common sense, let the low hanging fruit suffer for their weakness.

Lufthansa allows jump seat travel for other carriers, but, I guess they're 3rd world at the moment.....

I think UK and Canadian airspace are the only areas which ban flight deck travel except for those on the GenDec, regardless of what the corresponding OmA says.
