Have you tried Coastal Aviation in Tanzania? They have around 20 aircraft. Cessna 206, 208 and Pilatus PC12. They mostly fly tourists to bush strips in the national parks and to Zanzibar and small island beach and diving resorts.

Just a heads up, operators in this corner of the world receive quite a few expressions of interest ranging from phone calls to emails to word of mouth. Most will really only think twice about you if you stick your head in their door. Just my two cents worth.

Looking to fly in Africa

Hi all,

So I recently obtained my CPL (multi-ifr as well) and am currently sitting on about 240 hours total time. As someone that's always been willing to travel and work anywhere...

Would African companies consider someone at my experience level?
What would be the best countries/ cities to attempt to find a place to fly for (QOL, salary, safety etc.)? I've seen Nambia, Botswana and Tanzania mentioned as good places to try. Thoughts?
My license is a Canadian CPL what conversion process/ fees could I expect?
I've run into older forum posts on the web stating that hiring season there is December- March, are these still the best times to go look for an opportunity?

Any info and advice is appreciated! Also apologies if there is a recent thread on this topic somewhere that I missed.If someone can point it out I'll be on my way! Thanks!

Don't know much about the current situation in Africa , been a while since I flew out of there but Susi air in Indonesia seem to be interviewing 250 hour guys..

I cannot speak for the situation in other countries, but as a foreigner in Botswana you need minimum 500 hours.

I'm in about the same situation as you (except I don't have a commercial certificate, give me a month). Information about flying in those parts is hard to come by. All of the threads here are quite old and most recommend going to Botswana or Namibia and seeking out work in person.

Working in a foreign country is always a moving target. This month it might be India that needs pilots, quickly that turns south and now only Tanzania needs pilots, ad nauseam.

If your willing to travel and work anywhere, get your back pack and head to Africa and knock on doors, its the only way to have a chance at a flying job.

Places to look for work with a wet CSEL? CMEL?

I am an American citizen nearing 250 hours, my commercial checkride is very rapidly approaching. A few weeks after that I should also have my multi-engine ticket.

Looking at various countries in Africa, it seems that most want 500 hours (Botswana) or 1000 hours (Tanzania) for foreign pilots.

I know that flying in Africa as a foreign pilot is like aiming for a moving target, what is a good market at one time can quickly dry up. So where is the luck for someone in my position these days?

Low time flying jobs

I've been reading about Namibia and so on, but the posts were from 2008. How is the job market now for low time pilots ?

I'm a Canadian with CPL and IR 220hrs total. Any chance of getting a flying job anywhere in Africa ?

Most need at least 500 hours. It's unfortunate aero contractors went bust , they did hire some low timers on the dash 8.

Does anyone know of any hiring on the king air 350 out there in Africa? I have around 900 tt and 100 single engine turboprop with only 25 hours on King air. I mailed my CV to a few companies but it seems they want more than i have.

State of Play in ZA

Evening all.
I'm an Aus national looking to make the move to South Africa. I can easily obtain PR status via my partner. We live in AU, however have been finding outselves spending more and more time in ZA as things here on the East Coast just get painfully expensive.
We're contemplating making a permanent move to Cape Town. My partner (doctor) has no issues finding work, however I'm a bit concerned for myself. Ideally, Mango/Safair/Comair fit my personal desires well.
I've got about 6000 hours with 2000 on turboprops and 1500 on the 777. No 737 or 320 experience.
What is the hiring situation like in South Africa at the moment? And what are the thoughts on how the company would view a foreign national (with the legal right to work in the country) coming over?
There are comuting options available to me, but Cape Town is a long way away and I'd rather work locally.
