nonsense

fATPL is license like any other CPL with bit more. That "bit more" is another year of studying aeronautical theory. No matter how much you tried to make fun of fATPL, fATPL holder has apart from CPL-flying skills which comes with any CPL license also some more of theoretical knowledge which is always beneficial. It is or it will be nonsense to look down on it in any case concerning flying.

Sascha,

fATPL is license like any other CPL with bit more. That "bit more" is another year of studying aeronautical theory
Actually, an FATPL is just a CPL. What did your certificate/license say after your received your "frozen" atpl (fATPL or CPL)?

Look man, all we are getting it as that for the bush (or any job for that matter - flying or non flying), you need to have a good attitude and be willing to work hard. That extra year of theoretical training , eh, so it tells me you have good rote memorization skills. Sure you read and studied and memorized a few questions about CB and density altitude but not until you start flying in the bush will you get real world not theoretical knowledge and REALLY understand the importance of w&B, the effects of a forward and aft CG, the importance of density altitude, and how all of these, if not adhered to, can make you a statistic. Understand local weather and especially be respectuful of CB's. Most importantly, and they don't teach you that in that extended year of ground training is to have a good attitude, have some good common sense, work hard, leave the chip on your shoulder at home, be a good all around dude, enjoy beers with your fellow coworkers and don't be a Richard, be humble, be willing to learn from the more experienced bush guys...

To the bush pilots out there , sorry if I wrote something that may be incorrect and feel free to correct me.

(disclaimer I have never done bush flying in Africa; although some day......).

To the mods, sorry for the thread drift.

The only reason I see why an ATPL of any description being frowned upon, would be the management pilots haven't got one themselves.

An ATP/ATPL is no indication of intelligence. In the mid '70's when I did mine, a few of the candidates were still counting on their fingers. It is a sign however, a person has the determination to apply themselves, to absorb a certain amount of information and spit it out on demand within 12 months. Most of it had no application whatsoever to do with the job, when I sat mine. It is the authorities system for "weeding out". I am aware bush flying cannot be learnt in a classroom. If a company were to expand and get "heavy" equipment it would be smart for a company to have some crews with the licences to operate, rather than take "outsiders" to do the job, with no local knowledge for example.

The old story, if you haven't got the licence you wont get the job, period.

Its not the ATPL being frowned upon. Its people calling a licence something that it is not to try and sound important.

They just want the cut from the applications.

Thumbs up

Fly dubai is hiring non stop drivers for their 737 NGs . You should look up their website. They have teamed up with CAE to provide the type rating . Besides Dubai is a very cosmopolitan city to live in...

Anti-poaching in Angola? That would be a hoot. Bring lots of duct tape (bullet holes in the plane).

Bring lots of duct tape
Just a sewing kit - steel tube and fabric all the way!

Had I been being serious, I would not have suggested a sewing kit, rather I'd recommend a bullet proof vest - to sit on!

Does anybody know anything about living and flying in Kenya?
Also does anybody know about an agency called root aviation global? I don't know if they are Africans as their website is down.
Thanks

Majority of Pilot jobs in Kenya are for Kenya nationals. If you are lucky to secure a job, then you will sweat it trying to get a work visa. The Kenya govt has been very tight on that.

I don't know what you meant by " I don't know if they are Africans as their website is down" but if the company you are searching for has a website down.....then that should ring alarms on you!

I wrote that because the thread is on African aviation and just to clarify that it is irrelevant to my post.
