As the husband of a Kenya native, how long do I have to be in the country before I can get a permit?

There are jobs for sure, but theres a big glut of pilots at the moment, specially with the likes of Qantas downsizing somewhat.

Job for Pilots

A good initiative and effort. Jobs for pilots are difficult world over due economic slow down/recession and individual country's corruption and high headed Aviation Authorities.
We need to be informed and have a helpfull attitude amongst ourselves.

If you only hold and Indian passport, then unfortunately you will have difficulty getting visa entry into most African countries for longer than a couple weeks (a month is the longest I have heard of). And if you are low hours you will need to be in the country for significantly longer than one month to be able to get a job.
This is NOT a result of the individual African governments, but the Indian governments decisions about how it treats Africans.
Your best option, actually, is Indian companies.

Bush pilot

Hi guys
Do you think there is a chance to be hired by a company in Botswana or Namibia ?
I have 325 hrs of flight and I'd like to make an experience in Africa!

I am willing to go there to present my application personally if there is a concrete opportunity!

Thanks

concrete oppurtunity? no.
but you won't get anywhere unless you go there for at least 4 weeks, and probably more than 12 weeks.

Untrue!! A number of Indians are working in Africa........as pilots.

About the treatment of Africans by the Indian Government. The Indian Government has arrangements with different African Governments for offering scholarships to African students for study in India. India also helps African countries in achieving their development goals unlike some other countries which colonized and brutally exploited Africa and its people.

Given below are some news articles.

Just stating my experience.
In order to get a job in Botswana or Namibia, you really need to be there for more than 4 weeks, but neither of those countries will give Indian nationals more than a 30 day visa.
This is reciprocal, the Indian government won't give more than a 30 day visa to people from Botswana or Namibia. Until the governments join in lengthening the visa period, it will remain extremely difficult for Indian nationals to get hired in Botswana or Namibia.

This does not mean that there are no Indian pilots in Africa, nor does it mean that India does not do things to benefit Africans, it's all about the visas.
It is far easier for an Indian to get a job flying for an Indian company than a company in Botswana or Namibia.

Outside of Botswana and Namibia, the minimum hours jump to 1000 for almost every African nation.

So, in response to the original question, it is almost impossible for someone with only 250 hours from India to get a job flying in Africa. However, in India, several companies are hiring commercial pilots with 250 hours, so, it's better to try in India than Africa.

These are the facts, not rumors.

so you mean I have to stay there for 3 months before to get a job and it's not even sure to get it ?

What is the cost of the life there ?
