Any updates on the numbers recruited by SAA? Rumour here in the Fragrant Harbour is that 2 Cathay FO's guys got the nod from SAA and that another 8 have interviews with SAA....

Why do SAA want 747 crews?
Acording to their website Aircraft Features | Aircraft model | SAA | South African Airways SAA don't have any 747's

JUST FOR THE RECORD
SAA does not hire DEC's !
All the new recruits start on Year 1 FO salary scale... as In Flight Relief Pilots(A340) or First Officers on A319/B737-800 ...your previous experience means squat !

Generally, experienced pilots become P3 on the A340 unless they are current on the B737NG or B732/3 and there is a need for FO's on the B737 fleets. Cadets and low experience PDI's generally go straight to a domestic fleet so that if they are unable to hack the conversion then SAA does not waste three years of a more deserving pilot's time on the inadequate PDI who may have otherwise been hiding their deficiencies as a P3 on the A340.

Hi jbayfan. I'm not sure where you're getting your info from. However, your first sentence is factual. Sadly everything thereafter is .
No more direct entry RHS (domestic only) unless type rated.

Any black folk hired?
Hear SAA been doing some hiring of late, some local pilots and some expats soon to be ex-CX- congrats to the guys and girls hired by SAA!
Interesting that CX FO`s hired is something up in smoggy HK, are all the gen on pprune threads true...?? or do these blokes have family in SAA?? Why the move back to SA, more so Joburg..?
I hear, there are many Mango blokes itching for a seat in SAA, but are these chaps getting halted...??perhaps they are just too vital to fly the ex-SAA CPT to Durbs route, or perhaps they needed to keep retired direct-entry SAA Captains happy and away from the bowling clubs! Well sounds like atleast one Mango bloke slipped through the cracks well done LDJ.
I was wondering if Don Mkhwanazi of BMF has been too busy with other transformation activities to notice the latest on the recruitment department of SAA ? How much longer can people be employed on merit in SA, after all SAA is a national carrier and therefore a National Pride of Black Economic Empowerment.
So may I ask how many of the newly hired are PDI?

LOL someone is stirrrring the pot again
2packson - I think all legacy carriers would like their staff to represent the country's demographics.....I think in a case like SAA's the people at the TOP(government) leave the hiring to the experts...
So in closing, if YOU were not hired or called for an interview its not the fault of the Government....
Enough Said !

I think if you are widely read on Awops and know your way around the Jepp you will be fine. I have heard of guys being asked to draw an ALSF II type lighting system(in colour) but I think that style of interviewing MIGHT be behind us....
Dont stress just be honest and if u dont know the answer then say so....
For the sim check(B737-200) they give you the stuff (profile of whats going to happen)....you dont need to know flap speeds or SOPs of the a/c (if u not rated on it)....I suppose they just want to see your handling ability...
I may be wrong but this is how it happened afew years ago...

SAA?
so whats the deal with SAA these days? Still hiring based on the the ever efficient Affirmative Action Program? I know they pay well etc, but service levels dropped through the floor over the years. I am a South African who would loved to have been employed there, but the politics has really taken its toll. I got a job in Tanzania nearly 4 years ago with a good American owned company flying Turbo props. The pay is great, and its fun flying, and really learnt a lot. I didnt stand a chance in hell at SAA. Can anyone convince me otherwise that working for SAA is great and the selection process is fair?
I am open to any other views. Thanks gents and ladies. . .
