How To Start An Airline

I have few questions about the process of starting an airline. Aside from the obvious costs associated with purchasing a fleet, hiring staff, et cetera, what legal procedures have to be carried out in order to get the airline into business? What licenses, credentials, et cetera, are required, and how much (and how long) does it take to get them? What qualifications are needed by the airline executives, and what management positions does the airline have to fill to begin operation? Finally, aside from the purchase of aircraft, slots, et cetera and the hiring of employees, how much does it typically cost, overall, to start a new airline (in terms of the administrative and legal costs, et cetera)?
This question has been asked by someone before but I would really like a detailed answer if possible.

Depends upon what country. You're posting this in the African forum, so a goodly sum of bribe money and political "connections" are going to be necessary.

I am trying to avoid being sarcastic, so let me just say that you could start by reading one of the books on the topic. Then you need a financier with very deep pockets, and I mean very deep.

For example if you where to start off with a couple of B737 aircraft

I would guesstimate the initial start up costs around $25 million

Main hurdle will be an AOC

Pprune for all it's brilliance is hardly the place to be learning about how to start an airline. Frankly, learn about aviation generally first, research financing an airline, how and what is involved in running any kind of aircraft operation, work our your target market, investigate business procedures and check out prices and the competition. Go away and do your homework properly - the internet is not the right medium for this at all.....

As a rule of thumb - if you can't produce a feasible business plan yourself - then the costs to do this alone properly will cost you nothing short of US$75,000.

Due diligence via PPRUNE. WTF? Are you honestly hoping to get some valuable detailed info from people off some web thread. Don't expect to be spoon fed like you're in the ME.
