Senegal Airlines New CEO: Edgardo Badiali
I think this guy was at the helm of MYAIR (Bankruptcy 02/2010), VOLARE (Bankruptcy 2009) CEO of GOAIR for a little less than 2 years, Jetways , Swiss Air to name a few. Just wondering how he got the job ?

hallo Melaxdoesn't look like you knew what it takes to stay at the head of airlines owned by non-professionals of questionable reputation like at GoAir. Other than most of the executives installed by large well-known and luxuriously funded airlines Edgardo Badiali has been striving for the last 15 years to make "regular" as well as low-cost airlines viable in two continents and by doing so creating hundreds of jobs. Do you by any chance know how many new airlines makes it over their first few years? I don't think so, otherwise your comments would rather reflect respect for guys like Badiali who relentlessly try to build up successful new airlines instead of aiming for effortless and well protected jobs in so-called "serious" airlines offering jobs to administrators rather than pioneers like he is one.
Wouldn't be surprised to hear that you're a retired front office employee (cockpit) having never been in a position of entrepreneurial responsibility.

Hmm ...Why get involved with "non professionals of questionable reputation" ? Well we'll see where this latest venture will end. It will take much more than $8M US to operate 2 A330's and 2 A320's

Melax.. you are totally right .. Badiali is clueless.. moving from job to job not being able to hold one of them.. Guess Senegal Airlines will learn the lesson the hard way.. lets wait and see

Just south of Senegal, Guinea is relaunching a new airline called Air Guinee International.
This time,it is the China International Fund based in Hong Kong, who will back the new opration. September 9th is the expected launch date with 1 A320 and 1 A340.
The first announced destination is Dakar.
Senegal Airlines has taken a long time to materialize, given the announcement was made in the Dubai air show 2009.
Another new operator with Long Haul ambitions is just making the picture more complicated for Senegal.

During a stop over in GOOY (Dakar) I had a conversation with locals, and of course the subject of Senegal Airlines was front and center. According to the locals, The investors are totally clueless as none have any experience in the airline industry, the Son of the president who is the Air transport Minister (among 4 other ministries under his belt) who also controls more than half the country's budget is deeply involved in the process. They were not able to raise the anticipated funds and are now looking at leasing a A-320 from Sri Lanka Airlines
. I remember the initial announcement stating the pending order of 2 A-330 and 2 A-320 
(MOU to Airbus at the Dubai Air Show). The Dakar Paris route using a single A-320 is not going to be an easy task given the amount of luggage passengers carry, during the days of Air Afrique (Defunct RK) luggage rarely arrived with the passengers, you had to keep going back to the airport, sometimes in the middle of the night to meet your suitcase because if you didn't retrieve it right away, someone else was going to 
.I hope that they are not going to get the older Sri Lanka Bus (4R-ABF c/n 164 manufactured 1991) if the rumors are true. Meanwhile, ASKY has been denied Dakar Service in anticipation of Senegal Airlines.They also stated that the CEO Badiali gets about $US20K/month + perks and is housed in a 5 star Hotel while awaiting his villa... 
and that everyone is now fully aware of his track record.

yes got couple friends that are done with their airbus training in toulouse

lots of air senegal international pilots are not going to come back because some are flying with Asky others for qatar airways...now there is only a couple left i know from reliable sources dat they gon need pilots but only senegalese no expats......!but who can answer this question?
how can 1 airline hire only nationals that never flew the airbus before and put them as captain? is it safe....?

To be totally honest , at the time of the Mount saint Odile accident .... it was impossible to be anything else than ' new ' on type .
Similar to any pilot on the dreamliner next year ....or the 380 now ... Anyway , although an unfashionable statement these days , I believe overall experience makes up for lack of 'on type ' if the training's been thorough !

Senegal Airlines seems to be at the brink of immediate collapse according to local news. The have losses of more than 38 Millions US $ just for 2011.... This Airline was setup to boost the popularity of the then son (Karim Wade) of the President Abdoulaye Wade who wanted him to become the next King
. Unfortunately for this Corrupt government and to the relief all Senegalese, the elections were a landslide victory against them, about 70% voted against them. This kid messed up the airline industry in that country along with all the dependent industries (tourism etc...) I guess their CEO Edwardo Badiali can very soon add another failed venture to his Resume
. I remember them flying a A320 from Dakar to Banjul (90NM) with 10 passengers !!! The son of the president who was controlling 5 Ministries, among them the “Air Transport Ministry” imposed on all airlines to cut their frequencies by more than half even though Senegal Airlines couldn’t operate those routes. He ran the previous venture into the ground (Air Senegal International) in less than 4 years, it looks like he did better with this one, less than 2 years. Both the commercial Director and IT Director have been fired...(Both expats, their salaries reportedly were 3 to 4 times more than locals salaries...
) Top expats were doing well there, 20k US $ per month + Housing, car Telephone internet etc...

According to the local press, Edgardo Badiali , is trying to negotiate his exit for $750,000 US. Not bad at all, just like the great US CEO's running Corporations into the ground and getting huge severance packages and Bonuses. He was reportedly going to be fired by Karim (The prince) Wade after the elections if the previous president (Abdoulaye Wade ) was reelected. The New president Macky Sall was given a "Heavy dossier" concerning the setup and running of this airline by the son of the former President Wade. The auditors found many improprieties, including some major shareholders who didn't pay a penny for the shares.... They suspect they are front men for former officials. Well that's what happens when you involve politics. They will still have to find some mucho $$ to stay afloat, not sure if the new government will support them financially given the dire financial situation of the country.

Edgardo Badialli is gone....
Well I guess he lasted a little longer than anticipated (thanks to the former President's son who is now in Jail awaiting trial
) and can add another flop to his Resume . Senegal Airlines since yesterday no longer has a CEO . The situation is very dire, and I doubt at this point that the new government is going to be able to do anything. The press is reporting that Badialli ran the company into the ground and furthermore is accused of "unnecessary" expenses (by that they are alleging collusion between him and suppliers....well it's Africa after all), according to comments on seneweb.com, he already left the country.... If true I'm wondering why

STATE-owned South African Airways (SAA) said on Thursday it had been approached by the Senegalese government to acquire a stake in Senegal Airlines, and that this offer was under consideration.

Senegal Airlines first started operations in 2011. It is jointly run by the Senegalese government and private investors, who have a 64% stake in the business. It has a fleet of four aircraft. SAA is considering the feasibility of developing a West Africa regional airport hub.
The countries under consideration include Nigeria, Ghana, Senegal, Gabon and Togo.
The idea was not only to boost trade between the regions of Africa, especially air cargo, but also to act as a counterweight and competition to the Middle East airport hubs, such as Dubai and Qatar.

Yep, this is the new Guy : Mayoro Yacine , Director of ANACIM ( Senegal Civil Aviation and Weather administration) but he is already challenged by the employees... He is a commercial pilot (Or was....)

Migration to Lybian Wings
Well Badiali migrated north to Lybia !! He is the CEO of Lybian Wings. Senegal Airlines on the other hand still has a lots of employees (several hundred) and Zero (0) airplanes, They are sub-leasing a emb 145 to the tune of USD$50,000 / week !!
Some of the employees didn't get any salary in 6 months
. That's just down right crazy. this company never made a penny in profit, and still exists.They are gone from the IATA membership list.

The son of the former President (Minister of Air transport among a multitude of other ministries under him) has been sentenced to 6 years in jail and ordered to pay back several hundred $USD Million.
!! He is the CEO of Lybian Wings. Senegal Airlines on the other hand still has a lots of employees (several hundred) and Zero (0) airplanes, They are sub-leasing a emb 145 to the tune of USD$50,000 / week !!Some of the employees didn't get any salary in 6 months

That's just down right crazy. this company never made a penny in profit, and still exists.They are gone from the IATA membership list.There is a rumor that Turkish Airlines will take a stake in Senegal Airlines, The construction of the new Airport has been stalled for the last year (it's more than 6 years behind schedule
