Talking Assessment Day

Mmmmh. That was quit a day. I really felt good being at the barracks. It was my first time ever. The military environment is completely different from civilian environment.

The height thing was quit heart breaking. Many ladies were turned down for not making the 5' 4" cut.

Some JKUAT guys were turned down for not having their degree certificates.

Just to cut a solid to tomorrows interviewees, take a heavy/good breakfast. Alternatively, there is a cafeteria at Kenya Airways headquaters where you can top up. A lot of time will be spent in document verification.

Today, about 400+ people turned up for the interview. So somebody update us tomorrow so that we can get an approximate number of all applicants.

Hey Fredrick, the 400+ list was combined today and tomorrow and not only today

As for the assessment, whatever has been put here as leakage just take some time and go through it and work on your time....I was one of those people who ran out of time in some instances

For meals, take a heavy breakfast or carry some extra cash to buy some snacks in the KQ cafeteria and if you made any afternoon plans, cancel them! You'll be spending your whole day there.

All in all, success

Aptitude

As stated by @ Aviatorette, Grimz & Asili, Today's process was very tiresome. The procedures at KQ & DEFTEC where we did the test are long, for those going tomorrow ,prepare psychologically to spend the whole day.
Make sure you go through basic physics, chemistry and maths as outlined by @ Bolt.
Just a reminder: concetrate, be fast, accurate & calm.
All the best.

for those going tomorrow.. I would like to stress what the others have said!! trust me the standing around in the heat in line after line takes its toll....so eat a hearty breaky or take a snack(for those so inclined)
about the tests...speed! don't linger. if something stumps you even a little move on. chances are the next is what will save you.

success people.

hey people..yesterday was a realy tiring day.the climax was the time we settled for the tests and tension was all but at its ever highest..the matrices part kicked off well, the mathematics part proved somehow normal for the first section but tougher for section two, the general science thing that i cant talk of it, mechanical reasoning quite tricky with time but instrumentation part two killed everything..all i can do is relax and see what kq decides on me.
to bolt..bravo man, what you gave us really helped us..
was checking out around at the barracks to see if i would get to know at-least one guy on this forum..
aviatorette are you a lady.?sorry to ask.

DEGREES

Aviorette and Asili..someone posted that those without degree certificates were sent back home. My question is what if you have not graduated but the results are out,can the transcript of your last semester suffice as proof of 'graduate-in-waiting'?and they allow you to sit for the exams?

My Re-cap for Yesterday.

I can't really complain about yesterday. Yes, they kept us waiting for a really long time, but the Warrant Officer who was invigilating our room said he had never seen such a huge group in one day, so there were a few logistical issues that had to be sorted out last minute. My pal who was in a different room said that one person missed a paper because they weren't enough. This may have something to do with the fact that KQ didn't do any graduate recruitment last year and most of us who applied between March and December were called on one day. I'd hazard that we were about 300-350 yesterday and I talked to a pal who'd been called in for today's interview at around 9:20am and he said by the time verification of documents was ending, there were about 40 candidates. So in total we may be about 400, plus or minus a few.

As for the papers, I wasn't able to finish part 2 of Maths and the old chemical terms they used in the Chemistry section of the General Science paper left me blank. I can't complain about the rest of the sections.

The group I was in came out first so some of us stayed and had a chat with the guy who was returning our certificates as we waited for the rest. Well, as like every KQ employee, he swore by how free and transparent the ab initio recruitment process is and urged us not to be cheated otherwise. He gave us stories of high power individuals who tried to influence the system for their kids to no avail. He also said that KQ doesn't have a cut off number for the number of cadets that take to SA but the number is usually low because those are the ones that pass the selection processes. He said they (KQ) are praying for a miracle that as many as possible pass because they are critically short staffed. I asked him if hypothetically 100 people passed all stages, whether they would be taken and his response was that that was a miracle that they have been praying for for the longest time! Basically his explanation was that they receive the results from the outsourced testing agencies and those who've passed, proceed and those who've not don't. He insisted that KQ has nothing to do with selection until the last oral interview.

So ladies and gents, with this sort of encouraging news, let's all bring our A game to the remaining stages.

Captain Grimz

I wouldn't say it was a breeze because some of the orientations were just straight confusing, they required some serious 3D thinking but I managed to get to 69 out of the 75 without skipping any and those I answered I was confident of their correctness. I'm just hoping for the best...

I can see I'm not the only one who had trouble with the chemistry!

Feels encouraging knowing that KQ are willing to take a high number of applicants who pass through all stages. I wish you the best ladies and gents, let's hope we can make it

Thumbs down KQ Pilot selection

KQ uses an obsolete, archaic method to recruit pilots and this why it is forever short of them!
They rely on DEFTEC to administer tests that even the RAF no longer uses! For some strange reason KQ has refused to adopt modern recruitment methods despite the fact that they have a modern training centre! You can't do the same thing over and again and expect different results, its outright ridiculous!
I sat my KCSE in 18 years ago, how on God's good earth would I remember how to solve quadratic equations or balance a chemical equation, how relevant is it to flying?!
So long as KQ stubbornly sticks to this mode of recruitment they will NEVER get the numbers they want! It's time KALPA addressed this issue seriously!

Aptitude done, next psychometric, the wait for that email begins. Atleast today the process was much more time efficient than yesterday
