@ATT, thanks for the info on the hr guy, Aziz. i need to send my kcse cert, he was adamant and downright threatening about it. n BTW your so right, they lose so many people who probably would have made great pilots too early, not even giving them the chance to prove themselves. I heard that not even all who go to SA complete the program...they need to change.

KQ is just so messed up. Clearly we all applied in time and met all requirements regardless of whether 1000000 folks applied prudence dictates that you schedule interviews in batches to even get a greater pool to choose from. Else, send a regret email to all those you overlooked! Anyway, for those like me still kept on the waiting bay, check your application on the irecruitment portal, as long as its active you are probably going to get that invite, if not then move on to other things. I am going to fly a plane whether or not KQ recruit me,its only that this is an option I don't have the luxury to overlook. If you really want to fly then don't let KQ stop you.

Hi Lads,
I couldn't agree more with you guys. K.A needs to bring it's self into speed with other airlines who have embraced modern recruitment methods. They have a very good ambition plan but unless management starts looking at their recruitment methods ASAP, they will lack behind for a good time. No wonder as what ChegeAviator said "they are hoping for a miracle in their numbers"
The Direct Entry Candidates (DEC) for K.A pilots it's even more ridiculous! Like there is no difference between the DEC and AB Initio in terms of the recruitment process yet one already holds a commercial license.

Applied in March and still waiting
I'm still waiting but I plan on resuming my CPL this summer. I'd assume KQ would want to train pilots currently in training if possible as it would be able to put pilots in the flight deck sooner, as they also train cadets. I'd assume if the need is that dire, then it would be something they would look into.

Apologies, but I would think that you are overage. The age limit is in the bracket of 18 and 28, or rather [18,28), if you recall Basic Mathematics. We were once invited for the interviews last February 2013, before they revised the requirements, and to our surprise, all those who had hit 24 yrs and above where freezed out as the rest proceeded to the millitary enviroment. We were about 10 to 15 in number if I could recal. We wondered why they had invited us in the first place. They accepted that the mistake was on their part, and made chains of aplologies which did us no good. They however gave us a consolation that they will review the requirements, and supposedly raise the upper age limit to 28yrs, which would again give us a chance to reapply. True to their word, they did. So for those who have hit 28 yrs, aplologies, but am afraid they wont let you in...

Kenya Airways approximates if you will have turned 28 by the time you commence training, if so you are left out. Therefore if you are 28 or almost turning 28 that might be the reason you were not called in (my thinking).
In the list I saw I was already listed as 26 years of age yet I'm still 25, and even last year they turned away those whose were 24 yet the advert read 18-24

That would make sense on your side. But on the other hand, am opted to think the age limit comes into consideration as of the time you invited for the the first interview(from my experience)

Nyongesan, last year I was called in for the 22nd February interview but was turned away as the HR explained "you'll be 25 when the training begins".
I've also noted that among my friends who applied for ab initio, those who are 27 (turning 28 this year) we're not called for the interviews yet they qualify in all aspects

Age (The Upper Limit)
I guess the 28year limit is some sort of an affirmative action. Remember people from remote/hardship areas in Kenya have poor access to education facilities. The result is that people in such areas take long to wade through to university. By the time they graduate, they are in their late twenties.
If you aren't from a hardship area, don't rely on that upper limit- ni mlango wazi.
Most companies will take young people as trainess since they still have the energy and little social responsibilities.

Next Interviews
People have literally gone quiet here. I guess it's because of the challenge of last week's aptitude & the anxiety of waiting for the psychometric invite.
Anyway guys, cheer up & focus on what may be coming. Lets share whatever information we may have for now, it really helps in many ways.
Does anybody has any idea when the psychometric interview may start?
All the best to you all.

Rumour has it.......
Today I paid a visit to the direct entry guys discussion board and i saw someone had posted that the psychometric tests would be conducted on 18/19. I dont know who his sources are but if that is true, then we should be receiving emails this week.

Seriously that last week's aptitude just gave me the hibby jibbies, but i still hope for the best. I never knew science, which i think was not that bad in terms of the questions they asked but with regard to time, it's just giving me butterflies.

ACTUAL KQ FO SHORTAGE
All the other aircraft types have enough 1st Officer, the shortage currently is:
767s need 4 FOs
Embraer jets need 12 FOs
But considering they are increasing the size of their fleet, demand for FOs is already on the increase.
Therefore the future seems bright for young bloods
And where at thou thee precious psychometric emails
