Hi Guys.
First of all, communication with a company is a hassle. I was really struggling to get some information about tickets, assessment, documentation. It's a nightmare, I exchanged more than 30 emails to set up my interview.

Interview it's quite straight forward. Aviation knowledge is similar to QR database. I'm not telling it was easy, you need to be prepared. It will be easier for some young folks straight after school that for old wolves. I think was 60 questions, time wasn't really the factor. Then you have some questions on paper from psychologist. After that 30-50 mins conversation with psychologist.
Next stage is a panel interview with training department. CRM questions, some systems I think, but mostly pressing for CRM and something about your background.
I passed all the stages but there were quite big percentage people who failed. I was honest and straight forward. At this stage they proposing you contract. There is a draft but is so unclear that I got few questions. We sat with group and we deduced that you can have 2000€ or 4000€ around. It depends how you read this what they gave you. I send email straight after interview with questions they told me that they will reply after interview before sim. I was waiting 1 month to get sim date. Finally I got it but still I don't have an answer about contract.
Company looks nice, people are nice, living in Mauritius can make feel you trapped I believe after short time but is a proper country with very nice areas. But this communication problems, not offering straight forward conditions, it will loose them... they will need pilots soon when A350 will come, but I can bet that with this attitude they'll really will struggle with finding Pilots. I would like to join company but I can't wait 3-4 months for decisions and having screening process for 2 months.

Good luck guys.

Hello Yeah,

first of all, thank you very much for taking the time and sharing your experience.
I have surprisingly been invited to Jnb for the assessment and would like to ask you
1-2 questions about the assessment. If you don't mind of course.
So if you have a spare minute, I would appreciate if you could PM me.

Hello Yeah,

Thanks for the detailed write up. Regarding the sim check, did you ever go? Was it done on SAA airbus sim in JHB? 330/340/320? And if so, what did it consist of?

Hi,
Yeah It was in JNB, A320 sim. Really standard items, some hand flying and visual pattern. Some guys had sim in Hongkong and I believe that in London also.

Question for those that passed their assessments in January: How long did you wait to receive an actual employment contract and start date, after receiving an email for MK stating that you were successful and that they'd like to offer you employment?

Actual situation

Hello,

Little post to give some info on what is happening at Air Mauritius.
Most of us now know what happened on the 5th of October.
4 flights cancelled.
Followed the day after by the dismissal of 3 pilots, 1 local, the 2 others expats ( the President and secretary of the Expat pilots association)
The Mauritian was reinstated after a few days after apologizing in writing.
The expats were threatened by police during the following week end.
One of them (the president of the Union) received a letter from Prime minister office that his residence permit was void and was asked to take the first flight out of the country.
A long legal battle started to counteract these abuses and this has an incredible impact on MK.
Since that date, many flights were cancelled or delayed (last one Saturday evening flight to Paris on the brand new A350 couldn’t t leave due to lack of crew), reasons given by the company being operational reasons.
Reality is very different.
Operations face the direct reaction of pilots tired of helping only to get a clear position of management trying to reduce their package by up to 25% in return.
This is what is being proposed to the new joining local pilots without experience, and deterring new expat recruits.
Pilots are regularly used to their maximum, 900hrs/y or 100hrs/28d, minimum days OFF on the island, leave not granted.
For so many years the flight ops relied on the cooperation and goodwill of pilots to run the operations.
Obviously this can’t work on the long run and MK is now facing reality.
Management is now buying time and meetings between unions and management are fruitless as no action is taken.
A few days ago, one of the pilots was reinstated but again after a very tough battle to remove unacceptable conditions of reinstatement (conditions that looked more like sanctions)
The last one is still waiting and there seems to be no rush for the management to solve the problem.
In the meantime all negotiations were put on hold by unions who stand together in front of this totally illegal and unfair management style.
Further negotiations will be tough, the MOU proposed since 2015 was constantly delayed by a few specific people in strategic positions with strong political backup.
IFALPA put a ban on recruitment by MK,
It looks like Parc is not interested anymore in advertising for Air Mauritius as the package offered is way below market standards.
Sad to see that economics have priority over social equity and safety.
There is much more to say but the main point here is to spread the word on unfair and unsafe practices prevailing in Air Mauritius.
Please spread the word amongst your friends and colleagues.
All what you’ve just read sticks to facts.
Sad but true….

MicKey mouse airline ( MK ) Ha Ha Ha, they will never learn !!! As long as it is run by politicians, BOZOS at flight ops and HR, nothing will change. Much better pay, working conditions, respect from employer and quality of life anywhere else. For those who have been sacked last month, just look for better sky elsewhere. Get reinstated in the roster and tell them to stick their job where it should be painful.....
