Don't ask an Air Mauritius pilot when last profit sharing was paid - it's simply too long ago.
The housing allowance is inadequate to rent a house of an acceptable standard, so one has to be prepared to pay in from ones own pocket.
Leave was not mentioned by Dessas as part of the package. The allocation is 30 days per annum. Presently there is a moratorium on leave (there are some exceptions), normally very little leave is allocated to pilots over the peak period, from about November to February each year. Leave is presently approved at very short notice, also cancelled at short notice and allocated (forced on you) by the company without consultation. Hence you could be "allocated" leave whilst your children are still at school.

The other drawback is that you will be paid in the local currency. Since there is a long term shortage of foreign currency in the country, sending your meager savings abroad is becoming a real chore, often forcing you to accept an exchange rate below published figures!

MK f/o
Hi,
Everybody who has reasonable experience on the A320 family can push MK for an A340 position!
We are absolutely short of experienced f/o. MK will definitely hire f/os as we have a big WC 2010 charter program. It's cheaper to CCQ than train ab initio Mauritians with low experience on the A340. We have 6 ex-SAS f/os currently on IFR duties on short term contracts getting a basic of 6000 EUR!
But don't come if you hope for command. The airline is being "mauritianized" and with so much expat Captains the chances for an upgrade are really slim. MK has just upgraded 6 Mauritian A340 f/os to the ATR as captains. Meanwhile they will keep flying as f/os on A340, once released on the ATR.
Hope this helps.
Merry Xmas to all!

Here are a few facts about MK: It is a day to day operation. Medium or even short term planning in non existent. Beginnings of the year 6 or 7 expats were shown the door on discriminatory grounds. Money own to them was not paid out. Those pilots are suing the company in court in order to get their dues. The lasts of those lay off left in September. They started recruiting new pilots in November!!!!
Break in contract have now been introduce by the company, at contract renewal date, in order to get around the labor law!!! Leave system is a mess, you have to take force leave at company discretion….Pilots unions are going no where They filed numerous complaints to the Ministry of Industrial Relations since MK is ignoring them and breaking the labor law….and the list goes on…..
Think twice before joining!!!!!

Air Mauritius
Just had news from a friend who works in Mauritius that EVP has made a statement "no more promotions for expats".
Is this true?
cant see many F/Os going there for jobs, and sure there will be a max exodus of Pilots from there.

Yes it is true, said that all promotions to Captains and Training positions will be filled by Mauritians.
One week later, realizing his **** up, rectified his words by saying: priority will be given to Mauritians.
Expats F/O don't loose your time with MK. I fell sorry for all those who already lost too many years on the right seat hoping for command.
This is a hopeless place with an anti expat mentality from the management side

Ops Normal...
So not much has changed in the last five odd years since a whole bunch of f/o's left for Emirates, Etihad etc. Poor old Bunny will never get it, will he?
Feel sorry for the expats still there. TTG boys and girls. The Sandpit is not for everyone, but there are jobs aplenty, and you will at least get a shot at an upgrade.
PS: How long has the longest serving expat f/o been waiting for an upgrade now? Ten or twelve years???
