Post Jo'burg Critters?

My wife transited Jo'burg a couple of days ago, and saw what she descibed as black, rat sized critters with a long tail leaping about in the very long grass between the runways. She is curious, anyone got any ideas what they might be?

Cool

I beleive that the long tailed "critters" refered to by your wife were probably a small black spiecies of bird which has a long black tail about four times as long as itself ,known as a "paradise whydah", which enjoys hoping about in long grass on hot summers day's, this should not be confused with a Jo'burg airport company security worker who enjoys laying about smoking grass on hot summers day's.

Thanks very much for that . It sounds very much like her description of what she saw, the bird one that is! The alternative would have been floating a little higher.
