Arik
To All guys interested in this thread,
I have recently worked for Arik and can assure you of the following :
1/ Arik operate to safety levels ( SOP ) which will mean not operating under certain conditions which may not be acceptable to the travelling public( That also includes any wet lease company operating to there SOP ) Arik safety policy is strictly adhered too as is Virgin, Aero and other operators in Nigerian airspace .
2/ As with every start up airline you have growing pains which affect the operation of the airline Directly or inDirectly.
3/ I am aware that the Airline have had major discussions with the support companies ie.. LCL , LHT concerning service levels which were not complete or mapped effectively when the airline commenced service.
4/ I will however state that if the airline is to progress and become a force within Nigerian Aviation some of the dead wood needs to be removed or retired as they have little understanding of EASA or indeed the FAA and still look to outdated rules and reg's which have been defuncked for many years. The NCAA are not out of the loop on this. Pilots failing exams as the results whilst exceptable in Europe and USA are not acceptable under the NCAA
I am not here to Slate any side and some truths have been talked about on these emails but the bigger picture is missed.
Guys this is my first post and i hope i will have many more
Rgds

AVSEC,
You really are totally out of touch with what's happening in Nigeria aren't you? I'd stop posting on issues on this forum on which you obviously have absolutely no knowledge. Arik only issue one kind of ticket, the rumours alluded to by others are common currency here. If you have only your totally dissociated view of the local scene as to what's happening, suggest you keep your peace and post on those things on which you actually have some semblance of knowledge - if any

hey ettienne boy cool it just a bit.
Are you saying that expats working for companies do not have their tickets purchased in advance for them at special rates, and asuch cannot collect a refund in such a situation?
Or are you saying you have information that the angry expats had all purchased the tkts in cash themselves.
Give us a break and just admit that you are biased against Arik and all African Airlines.

AVSICK,
As always, you show your total lack of information with what's happening in Nigeria. There is no such thing as a special rate with Arik - all tickets are N20,000 and, had you ever purchased one, you would know that there are no refunds.
I am not an expat but, unlike you, I have remained in Nigeria, purchased a ticket with Arik myself and been refused a refund when my flight was cancelled.
Have you visited Nigeria in the last one or two years? I very much doubt it and your own selective rants against Nigerian airlines except those with which you have some tentative commercial association, are laughable. Your continuing postings on matters on which you so obviously have little or no knowledge will soon render you a laughing stock if you are shot down in flames on many more postings. I suggest you actually visit Nigeria before you make any more of your nonsense.
BTW, I actually work for a Nigerian airline - unlike yourself and my name is etienne t boy, as you'd know if you'd ever visited Port Harcourt and listened to " Chop I Chop". I am the master, you are the mugu
Today I actually flew to Lagos with Arik. The flight was very nice - but I'm still pissed off that they chopped my original N20,000 - I only flew with them because they're cheaper than Aero and I didn't have to pay the N8,000 for the taxi to Owerri and risk getting robbed or killed on the way (and it's still cheaper than the cost of the VK ticket plus taxi). For your information I rate airlines here as Aero, Virgin and now, Arik (despite my experience with them). The only other I would consider is Bellview, and only because there is no real competition with them on some international routes within West Africa. I fly them if I have to, but always wonder on which day I will fly (rather than at what time ).

I am sure that your response must be amusing to those that understand the social context in which your I am sure good humour is derived from.
However the fact remains that, pax under such tense situation as exists in PHC would have been anxious, and unmanageable in such a tense situation.
I have handled a few in my career and so sympathise with Arik Air management. That must have been quite a day.
We require VK,Aero,Bellview and Arik Air to succeeed in order to have our industry within West Africa more viable and attractive to FDI.

AVSICK,
I'd suggest that instead of sympathising with Arik Air management, you'd be better off sympathising with around 200 passengers who were left stranded without compensation or a credible explanation of why. The fact remains that all those passengers were perfectly manageable and had they been told the truth and had their money refunded there would have been no problem. If you require Arik to succeed then they'd better get their act together and behave in a responsible fashion. Acting as an apologist for poor service doesn't give a good impression of what you think are acceptable standards.

ARIK Fokker 50 Grounded
I read that ARIK's Fokker 50 leased from Denim air was grounded by the Nigerian Civil aviation Authority because they did not obtain proper clearances before importing the aircraft and they have been fined $20,000. Is there any truth to this story?

Arik Yet Again Lets Down Passengers
Arik yesterday, yet again cancelled flights from NAF Base to Lagos. leaving many, many very angry passengers in their terminal, with no refunds being offered. Coupled with this they have just increased their fares. They've pretty much lost all credibility with expat passengers wanting to travel from NAF to Lagos now

NCAA Grounds Arik Aircraft
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has grounded a Fokker 50 aircraft with registration number PH—3XJ belonging to Arik Air Limited and ordered the company to pay a fine of $20,000.
The aviation regulating body accused Arik of importing the aircraft, which was manufactured in 1991, without due diligence and “failure to comply with the mandatory pre-arrival of aircraft safety inspection.
According to the Media Assistant to the Director-General of NCAA, Mr. Sam Adurogboye, “the fine of $20,000 has been imposed on the airline, while the affected aircraft has been grounded forthwith.”
He also stated, “NCAA has also directed that the aircraft should leave the country forthwith,” noting that the Authority in its oversight function is determined to ensure effective air transportation in Nigeria.
But in a swift reaction, the management of Arik Air Limited said it alerted NCAA of the arrival of the aircraft because “the aircraft ought to have been inspected before being flown into the country or a waiver obtained.”
In a statement made available to THISDAY, Arik’s Head of Communications, Mr. Gbemiga Ogunleye said representatives of NCAA had met with Arik and had discussions, but “what has complicated matters is that Virgin Nigeria apparently had applied to the NCAA to carry out pre-arrival inspection of the same aircraft.”
Ogunleye also told THISDAY that the company would immediately send the 16-year old aircraft out of Nigeria in response to NCAA’s directive.

Whats happening?
Seems nothing's happening at Arik these days?
Heard the guys are flying their butts off!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I also hear the recruitment drive has come almost to a halt, with the company not really knowing what's to happen after the elections.
