ILS/ PILOT LANDING DIFFICULTIES FOR SAA A340-600's
This question is directed to all SAA Pilots or passengers having travelled into Johannesburg especially, on an SAA A340-600.
Let me start with my story:
Coming in from Cape Town into Johannesburg on flight SA346 on 11apr. Weather average and we were full. We flew over the airport boundries fencing and were coming in at correct height and speed. The aircraft desends slowly and we glide over the runway threshold (numbers) and we get are getting lower and lower and with no attempt of flare....CRASH! we hit the ground VERY hard, a few people screamed and a overhead bin or too opened - it was a VERY hard landing! Anyway, a weak reverse thrust brings us to a turn off mid way down the runway.
is this a normal a340-600 ILS, or A346 pilot landing? SAA pilots are amazing at landings, but in the A340 is that normal - NO flare?

If we tolerated a new thread for every frightened pax, shaken by a hard landing we'd have a new forum, so briefly:
No, it's not normal.
Yes, it does happen.
