kq cry for tz pilots

jambo nduguz?

just read this on this weeks east african, kenya airwaves has encouraged tanzanian and ugandan jet rated pilots to apply for the 737 and 767 jobs.....

Now is this a co-incidence or wht? because on the same newspaper the mighty Air Tanzania has advetised similar kind of vacancy...

could it be that both airlines are perhaps targeting the same group of people (ex-precisionair/ex-atc 733 rated guys) if so that its a dirty game whever is playing it.....

would someone please teach these guys wht code sharing, alliance and mergers are all about...

tukigombana hivyo tutakufa wote....

keep it up there guys,

You mention ex-Precision Air.Are they still operating? as unless I'm missing something, I haven't seen their -300 in JHB recently!

Hmm,

well Precision incured a massive loss operating that 300, especially with SAA and ATC in and out of JNB.

But Kenya has a lot of pilots looking for jobs, especially the 250 hour guys, thus I think the add is more of a comfort blanket so as not to piss off the new EAC brotherhood thing.

How many Tanzanians are there who are jet rated anyway, I think I can guess...... around 25 MAX, of which 80% of them are at ATCL and the rest with precision, as is GA guys are desperate for good TZ drivers and there are none.

KQ might just take a few of those who were trained on the 300 at KQ's expense.

Maybe the ghosts of ATC will make a move too which will be a . Then 406 and the lot can move on with life !

406 buddy, no harm in sending the paperwork across the border only costs $10.
Its all about luck as you said !

He He He...

Vipi wenzangu,
Just curious, how many 737 and 767 drivers is KQ looking for? KQ from what I know is they are cutting down on the 250hr guyz and welcoming jet time and rated drivers. The 250hr guyz are all over Wilson and the like. The airline's move to invite rated drivers is cost effective just like southwest airlines does it here in Dallas. Every $ counts!! So guyz, get your ratings and give it a try.
Kwa wale wote wasio na ratings, KQ inawapa pole

hi guys and gals if there are any

let me try and clarify thing regarding the ex-precision/ex-atc pilot issue....once upon a time in the banana republic there was an airline called precisionair which got itself in a deal with kq and got hold of a 737-300,now as we all know precisionair 's entire/well sort of entire crew are all ex-atc pilots i.e 737-200 rated guys...so a few more pilots were poached from atc to compliment the expansion...
as we all know that plan went horrible wrong and precisionair proved to the world that the move was infact not so precise, wht i still wonder is why it wasnt publisised anywhere, ohh could it be because it wasnt atc?

right now back to mr.simba's question..the advert does not specify how many candidate are required but i know the deadline is somewhere around 16-18 feb sorry i cant really help u much buddy...

lone falcon gone are the days when 10$ used to be a small amount dugu, remember we now work for the national flag carrier where every cent counts....he he id rather hang on to my $$$ while i can besides im not jet rated or even jet oriented

keep it up there

far as i know, KQ are taking applications from rated crew, and not just from Uganda and TZ. BUT are having a last rally round for experienced, not necessarily rated, kenyan Cits. Seems inevitable at some stage soon contract crew will be required if expansion as planned is to go ahead. Obviously issues of seniority and current crew movement would need to be sorted. Worth keeping an eye. Rumour has it about 80 or so needed asap, more in the near future, but just rumour. Seems to make much more sense training wise to fit rated crew in where possible...... Certainly aren't 80 rated crew here so worth a shot...

Please tell me thats an illusion, 80 pilots seems a rather inflated number, is KQ acquiring new aircraft soon? With the airline industry having the toughest time of all ages , thats sounds rather impractical on their part. They just declined the miami route and jumped in with Continental Airlines for the Lagos route I hope that works out well with the PAX numbers alwayz on the rise on that one. And also read something on the Standard newsprint about good old kegode airline running some route to sudan? Wats up with that?

Simba kali,

5Y-NOT is spot on. KQ is short of 80 pilots as we speak, this does not even cover their expansion plans. You would be surprised to know that flying 80-100 hrs a month is typical on some fleets eg the 767. Most pilots have not gone on leave for 6yrs!

However, the situation has now become unsustainable hence the recruitment campaign. You would also be surprised to learn how much crew are needed to run a scheduled program and how crew wasteful some destinations are eg Bangkok in this case KQ crew would stay upto a week before heading back to NBO, its since improved with the addition of a fourth frequency.

Anyway, you better come back home before they fill up the slots!

Regards,

406 Pilot

To go to your initial post, KQ did not put the ad so as to poach pilots from ATC, mere coincidence for reasons that have already been explained in this thread.

Regarding the code share, merger and alliances: KQ did have a code share with ATC until SAA bought them, whereupon SAA promptly cancelled it saying that they could not code share with a bitter rival. The rest is history. ATC has now stopped flying to NBO a market they have served since 1977 as they can\'t compete with KQ on this route, indeed SAA can\'t compete with KQ on the JHR-NBO route as they have cut freqencies from 10 initally to match KQ\'s and are now down to 7 while KQ is planning to go double daily as soon as they sort out their crewing shortage.

KQ offered to create an East African Airline when ATC was being privatised but the Tanzanians rebuffed the offer in favour of SAA and SADC. KQ\'s analysis of ATC showed that ATC and DAR would not be viable as a stand alone airline and hub respectively, they did bid for the airline but withdrew at the last minute when the due diligence revealed the foregoing. KQ\'s valuation of ATC at that time was no more than 8mio USD, SAA was desperate to take the war to KQ in its home market by creating an alternative hub in DAR and over bid and paid USD 20mio for ATC. The rest is history.

Regards,

Hey Spydee,
You just busted my bubbles !!! Now, sincerely speaking, how much is salary for a F/O ? Have you considered applying for the position or you are actually with the airline? Tell me please, is it true that regardless of the ratings and or the hours (including jet time and or turbine), you will to fuata mlolongo like a 250hrs guy in terms of seniority and all that? I find it very interesting coz some credit should be given where it is due. Tutaonana hivi karibuni. Kaza mwendo

Simba kali,

No, I am not with KQ and have no intentions of joining them as a pilot as I am doing something else...however, I do know some of the key players there.

The seniority system as I explained to you in a different thread does not take into account how much jet/flight time you have. it's based on your date of checking out hence the need for you to apply sooner rather than later. This week, Monday 15 new pilots joined and they range from guys with 250hrs to over 5000hrs jet.

As regards the salary, please do a search on this forum, and you will find a thread by a KQ pilot who has given a comprehensive breakdown.

Bushboy,

They are initially looking for East african pilots and then rest of the world. I suggest you send them your CV. Check for the address and contacts by looking for posts under my user name, should not be too difficult as I have less than 10posts!

Goodluck.
