Interesting to see how repairs will be performed.

Aircraft now back in Dubai.

Seriously???

Temp repair to the underbody fairing, or replacement with a flown-in part, temp repair to the rear fuselage and an unpressurised empty ferry flight back home. I guess it was possible.

Edit: https://www.paddleyourownkanoo.com/2...ons-on-russia/
Damage not as bad as it appeared to be I guess.

magyar_flyer 2nd Apr 2024 12:31

Well if it is back to Dubai it was definitely possible. I certainly hope it was a ferry flight...

Onions 2nd Apr 2024 13:56

According to FR24 it flew back at 41,000 feet.

pax2908 2nd Apr 2024 15:51

Formally, was the manufacturer's approval required before the flight back?

Jhieminga 3rd Apr 2024 08:10

It was an empty ferry flight, and the article also says that they flew at FL410, so apparently they didn't need to fly unpressurised as I cannot see them operating at that level with oxygen masks on for the entire flight.

I'm not familiar with the A380 structure, but perhaps the outside skin in that area is not part of the pressure hull?

Looks like the tail end of the belly fairing aft of the wing took the hit,

I agree. I wonder if Mercedes are still supplying spares with the sanctions in place.

Surprised the flew it back to Dubai and not to France, where repairs would be easier.

TURIN 3rd Apr 2024 09:50

It's just the 'falsework' composite none structural belly fairing. The pressure hull is several inches above that.

Perhaps this quote from the link in Post #5 explains why:-

Emirates has its own engineering centre at DXB which is capable of performing heavy maintenance programmes.

Shouldn't have been going to Moss Cow in the first place , should they?
