The news is reporting a 172 and Sonex amateur built collided near Denver this morning:

That area can be extremely busy, between the front range of the mountains, Denver's Class B, with flight schools, gliders, local hobbyists, transient corporate traffic,etc. Lots of small GA airports within 10-20 km, along with Rocky Mt. Metro, mentioned as departure airport for the 172.

Avoid the weekends
I used to fly in central NJ and a non towered field under the Newark Class B. I tried to avoid flying on the weekends. So much going on. Hard to keep it all sorted.
