This may explain the Alderney Approach Light System U/S NOTAM :bored:

Built like a (non-Soviet) battleship!

Mind you, aren't approach lighting poles supposed to be frangible?

It looks like they are!

treadigraph 13th Sep 2022 11:59

Yeah, when hit by a Beech product! :p

G-MOAC, registered owner is based in Alderney.

360BakTrak 13th Sep 2022 13:54

At least he could walk home then.

Not sure if re-covering the pitot tube was necessary

Maybe it wasn’t removed pre-flight, and was a contributing factor to the incident ?

uxb99 13th Sep 2022 17:57

How did it manage to get damage on the wing root but not the prop? Must have been quite nose high on impact.

treadigraph 13th Sep 2022 18:02

Perhaps an abandoned take off - especially if luckyrat is correct and the pitot cover was still in place, and pilot pulled the mags before hitting the lights - there is some prop damage, top blade has a slight bend near the tip and a scuff on the right hand one. Or an engine problem on take off of course!

The Fat Controller 13th Sep 2022 18:04

The blade at 4 o'clock as viewed from the front looks like it may have a scuff mark and the 12 o'clock maybe a slight bend above the stripes and damaged tip.

clark y 13th Sep 2022 22:47

Left hand wing damaged too.

Pilot DAR 13th Sep 2022 23:06

Left hand wing damaged too.
Thank goodness for that, or it probably would have spun the plane around and ended up much less well!

Yes it is because that aircraft will be repaired .

Australopithecus 14th Sep 2022 03:02

Not sure about that. Looks like the right inboard impact may have involved the wing spar.

360BakTrak 14th Sep 2022 03:22

The incident happened on landing into sun. Hit approach lights on final by getting too low according to sources there.

Jhieminga 14th Sep 2022 07:25

That prop certainly hit something!

340drvr 14th Sep 2022 10:50

Repairable, maybe, but probably an insurance total for sure.

Flapless approach perhaps, it would be strange to be that low on approach even with the sun straight in your eyes. Even stranger if it was a locally based aircraft.

EDIT - Presume they mean he hit the APAPIs by deviating from the runway? is there actually an ALS at Alderney, it has been years since I have been there and the AIP doesn't show any.
