two aircraft, two forced ldgs, only <10 miles apart
Yesterday (04 Aug 2016) two light aircraft suffered power loss and landed in farm fields in Brown County Ohio, only a few minutes apart. Only minor injuries were reported.
Two common threads: Both refueled at the Brown County airport, raising the question of contaminated fuel. This is being investigated by FAA. The other factor that comes to mind is very high dewpoint - probably 22C. One ship (a parasol homebuilt) used a Continental A-65 engine. The other is a Cessna 150 or 152 of 1973 vintage. If a 150, it has a Continental of similar design but slightly larger displacement. The Continentals I have flown seemed to be vulnerable to carb ice. Thoughts? :8 |
