Lysander damaged

?Quick thinking? pilot crash lands WWII plane in Ontario field after engine trouble | Globalnews.ca

It's sad to see..

It's delightful that these historically important aircraft are kept flying, you'd just wish that they could do so with some kind of honourable immunity to trouble, after serving so well generations ago!

They fixed it once (I was a very small part of that), they'll fix it again...

A friend who used to fly them for real, said you always knew what the heap of bits was, because of the big mag casting of the U/C among the rest of the stuff.

Having seen the link, pretty minor damage.

it probably wanted to pop into a non airfield field for old times sake:ok:

Damage apparently limited to the undercarriage leg and prop tips. Plus whatever caused the engine to go quiet (the Mercury is pretty quiet engine anyway!).

It never ceases to amaze me how they keep these old engines serviceable. Surely stocks of spares etc dried up years ago? How do they do it? Extremely glad that there are people with the skills to keep the sources of motive power operational.
