DAT ATR 72 hit RWY lights
This morning at app. 06:25 LT, Danish Air Transport ATR 72 bound for Copenhagen tried to take off at Karup Airport (EKKA) along the runway edge lights. For some reason both pilots mistook runway edge lights for centerline lights.
Edge lights were hit and maybe a concrete block. Damage to the aircraft not revealed. approximately 66 passengers onboard. Fly uheld i Karup Lufthavn*- MinByHolstebro Karup-fly i uheld før afgang - Rundt om Viborg | viborg-folkeblad.dk |
Interesting to know what the RVR was. Min is 125m according to Jepp! This has happened in the UK at least twice before in the recent past.
An ATR tried to do it at Prestwick and a biz jet - I think it was a Citation - tried to do it at Teeside. Monitoring the LLZ as you line up will confirm whether or not you are on the CL - provided there is an ILS. Could this have been an intersection departure via RW 21? Time will tell. mcdhu |
Some years ago, a '125 landed off a PAR at Farnborough in RVR 300m, straddling the runway edge lights on the left side of the runway. There is a possibility the pilot mistook the edge lights for centreline lights although Farnborough is not equipped with centreline lights.

Don't need low vis a biz jet did the same in DXB in 2011 with CAVOK!
