Microlight Crash - Warrington July 2015
 

Not seen much on this one. A microlite has crashed at Burtonwood near Warrington this week. Eye witness reports saying he was wazzing houses in the minutes before the crash, he hit power lines and went in fast. Mobile phone footage confirms this. Pilot airlifted to hospital by helicopter.
Did a bit of digging and ooooops, it was a solo student on Navex, people on the ground have videoed the whole thing for the AIB

"Temporarily unsure of position?" Certainly sounds that way,- as I understand it, the correct priorities are, -Aviate Navigate Communicate. Perhaps the stude forgot.

That was lucky! Temporarily unsure of your position right overhead your best mates house, at wire height, whilst waving like mad at the crowd. Wow! The crowd are your mates as well, what a coincidence! PMSL

Does look a little like somebody who might be showing poor judgment in their flying.

I swear I could hear him yelling "dagga, dagga, dagga, dagga..." as he buzzed the houses.

PS - I used to work at Daresbury Lab right down the road from where this happened. Not a lot of people know that, so keep it quiet.

Report is out, interesting read at the end of the doc. Pilot cannot recall a thing due to "post traumatic amnesia"....

Lucky there were plenty of witnesses to help his memory along then!

Without wishing to light a bonfire the tone here is in contrast to another pilot unable to remember much about his accident.

Which pilot would that be? :confused:

Sorry buddy forgive my miserableness. I was referring to Shoreham where the pilot remembers nothing. I know its not the same magnitude its just in my view if people can't remember they can't remember - it hardly seems fair to snear at some and wholeheartedly accept others pleas in this regard.

The injuries he suffered are fair reward for climbing to 5000ft (when briefed to be not above 1200ft in that area) in a busy arrival/departure area for Manchester and Liverpool. We're all lucky that it didn't end a lot worse. :mad:

Oh... I hadn't realised that the AAIB or Sussex Police had released details of their interviews with him? Have they said he remembers nothing?

Assume I know nothing but in the meantime like my posts on the accident itself just follow the logical conclusion from what is said or rather not said. It's the end of Feb 2016, you truly think there is going to be some big reveal now?

This thread is supposed to be about the Quik crash, I suggest it is left to those who know what they are about to discuss just that.

Stating that you remember nothing, declining to cooperate or stating that you offer no comment should be the standard continual response to any prosecuting or investigating authority: whether that is the Police, I.Revenue, Councils, RSPCA, CAA or any other such officialdom.

All these authorities are interested in is quick cheap easy "wins".
They love people who "cooperate" who think that by doing the "right thing" they will be exonerated as the truth will out.
Sadly the individuals forget that what you get in court is 'law' and not 'justice' and they will be stitched up proper like a kipper.

Once they get the message that you are going to make it as difficult as possible for them, divert their resources, be as obstructive as possible and generally cost them hundreds of thousands in terms of time, resources and pure money......they will get the message.
The case will be dropped though "lack of evidence" or that classic catch-all used for sweeping things under the carpet that prosecution "would not be in the public interest".

I've twice been what you suggest is a fool, and been honest, once with the AAIB and once with the Airprox Board. In the first case it was pilot error. In the latter case, I did not have right of way. In both cases the response was very good from my point of view. In neither case was I doing anything outwith normal flying.

This guy is lucky he's not broon breed, must have been a sore one hitting those cables flat out. I wonder if he ever got back in the saddle ?

Absolutely Maoraigh - people like AAIB and Airprox Board are there to help everybody. In my experience they're very "gentle" on those who are open to lessons and admissions of the true facts, and can be pretty rough on those who withhold information.

There is perhaps an exception with NATS at the moment, whose UK based inquisition about infringements is creating an increasing store of anecdotal evidence of NATS staff who are convinced that they are entitled to be policeman, judge, jury and executioner. That does need knocking on the head.

Given this accident and the content of the report, the video that was available shortly after the accident, and that the pilot was a pre-GFT student, I suspect that he might struggle to find an instructor to finish his licence off with?
