Mid air in Italy
I saw this early on one of the Facebook aviation pages, one dead one survived

Two separate accidents in that vid, surely.
First. a mid-air, the second what looked like an attempt at 'water skiing' gone wrong. Why conflate? |
This appears to be a display team at an organised show, rather than some random showboating, which has gone wrong resulting in one fatality and one ditching, from which the other pilot was lucky to survive.
The previous posts don't appear to be particularly informed or helpful. |
As the OP has titled their thread "Mid air in Italy", let's focus the comments on mid air collisions of aircraft who intended to be formation flying. This is a worthy topic for this forum.
|
Having had more video available to me, this does seem to be a case of a formation flying mid air collision, the result of which was one fatal crash, and the other forced landing, as seen.
|
Yes. I've seen some more video footage too and it does seem to be the closing event in this single accident. Certainly was not the water-skiing cockup that I suggested earlier and the deadstick into the shallows does seem to have been conducted as well could be expected.
|
Yes, now that more video is available, my original conclusion was not well founded. The details of the mid air itself perhaps bear some discussion. Otherwise, the forced landing in the water went fairly well, conditions considered....
|
Any links to the other videos?

I was in Italy at the time. It was a mid air followed by a forced landing along the water line. No where else to go with a beach full of people.
|
Not a formation flyer so can't comment on what happened other than the obvious but nice to see the spectators getting the guy out of the ditched a/c. He seemed to be walking wounded.
