SAR chopper crash, 1980's, info needed.

Hi all,
My first, and probably only, post on this forum so please forgive the intrusion.

This is a random request, and before anyone suggests it, I've been on Google trying to find an answer for nearly an hour

In the late 1980's (IIRC) I took a group of three lads on a walk in the Lake, we went up the Esk Valley to Esk Hause (wildcamp, then Scafell Pike next day before returning home). En route we were having lunch on Scar Lathing when a SAR chopper came down the valley and crash landed on a flat bit of land where the Esk bends sharply to the West (GR 225047). I won't go into any great detail but we carried on with our walk as a Chinook had turned up and all appeared well (I later saw this on an episode of 999 - thankfully there were no casualties and only minor injuries).

Your task should you choose to accept it is to find me the date. Find it and I'll donate a tenner to the MRT of your choice.

Happy hunting, and thanks in advance. Tony

Sea King tipped a blade on the rockface while trying to winch a casualty off a ledge as I recall. Might have been early '90s?

Yes, found on another forum. You were correct, thanks for replying.

Rare footage from 999 and Caught on Camera in the early 1990s on Seaking helicopter XZ594 that clipped its rotor on Green Crag during the rescue of an injured climber on 27th April 1991.The story is told by the chopper crew and the injured climber.

And this page Sea King XZ594 - Upper Eskdale. (actually the first hit)

Here's the youtube clip of the actual incident

There was a documentry series on TV around then following the Lossie SAR cabs. Search "STV Rescue" on youtube, all interesting episodes, but I think the one involving the crash was called Sting in the Tail. The camera crew were on board at the time. The Piper Alpha episode is very interesting but also sobering.

Was the Lossie accident not a different one - in the Highlands?
