Ah, the vagaries of the English language. By “a bit further east” I meant Vietnam and so I was also mislead by “Quite a bit ...”.

No research today for me, as I’m visiting Yangon for the first time. A friend is showing me around and our first stop, very appropriate given the date, is the Taukkyan War Cemetery - 6400 graves and 27000 names of soldiers with no known grave, listed on the Rangoon Memorial. Very thought provoking.
