What a load of cobblers. RPT turboprops have an engineering department that monitor engine trends and oil consumption etc. The pilot does an external inspection and looks for something obviously wrong like a great big puddle of oil underneath the wing or covering the cowl. There is no way a pilot is going to be able to detect anything amiss within the internals of a gas turbine engine.
