Problem is that continental Europe sees the EU as a politicial concept for mutual gain, whereas the UK has always seen it as an economic concept serving the interests of the UK. And quite obviously these two concepts don't mix very well. The mistake was made almost 50 years ago to let the UK in in the first place. With all kinds of concessions and rebates the UK was kept in, but since Brexit the overall feeling is really "good riddance".
