Route 1 is clearly the most competitive given its' the airlines flagship and as such places on MPL will be limited. To secure Route 1 or 2 you must meet the airline requirements in entirety, i.e. grades/qualifications. Once your initial application has been reviewed by L3 you will be told which route(s) you qualify for and will be offered the opportunity to book yourself onto the relevant selection day. i.e. Route 1/2 or Route 3. I'm afraid I do not have the exact figures really but there are a fair few Route 3 cadets in the process at the moment. As far as I see Route 3, it's just L3's Whitetail program with the tagging occurring at the start rather than the end thereby cutting out the holdpool step.
